It's not easy for me to look on the positive side of things, but in a weird roundabout way, it's kind of nice (other than the lack of money) that I haven't been able to find a job in 6+ months. At my previous job, I was extremely burnt out and agitated all the time. Even after work or on my days off, I would still think about shit that happened at/relating to work and I would get angry all over again and I was basically a sentient ball of rage.
Even though it wasn't exactly voluntary or ideal, the time off of work has been pretty nice for my mental health. Other than the money worries, I'm much more relaxed than I have been in years. I'm still actively looking for a job, I haven't started slacking off or anything, but just not having to interact with stupid fucking people every day and almost completely turned around my mental health. So that's a nice thing, even if I didn't really want it to happen in this way.
Yeah frogs don’t have ribs. It’s a quick way to identify the bullshit ‘info’post about the ‘correct way’ to hold a frog. They seem to constantly mention hurting their non-existent ribs.
Can customers please stop A:interfering in conversations that aren't their own, and B: Stop giving other customers false information that can lead to people getting fired/fined?!
Had a customer try to send money on behalf of another customer, which is a big no no(for an obvious reason) and I told them no.
A customer who wasn't even related in any way, shape or form then preceeded to tell them it was okay! And to top it off, said I was lying!
Ma'am, last time I checked, if you're sending more than a grand(which these customers were trying to do!) you can't be having people do it on your behalf. It's illegal for a reason.
So kindly shut your mouth and don't speak on matters that don't concern you
I've been tagged in this a whole lot now. I have reservations about dignifying it with an answer at all, because the art/advert is so clearly AI generated. However, as this post brings no traffic to the actual source itself, I feel like it's okay to at least identify what we're looking at. And I think almost all of these can be identified:
January - Agalychnis callidryas. Of course. AI loves popular animals, and perhaps no frog is as iconic as the red-eyed treefrog.
February - Trachycephalus resinifictrix
March - probably supposed to be Dendrobates auratus, but honestly looks more like a Ranitomeya
April - I think this is supposed to be Odorrana? It certainly looks like it.
May - any of the many green frogs in the family Ranidae. May be Aquarana or Pelophylax, but could also be many others.
June - Maybe Litoria caerulea? but not chubby enough
July - I think the AI was trying to represent a Pelobatrachus nasutus, but had arbitrarily decided it wanted only green frogs and accidentally landed on something like Gastrotheca guentheri?
August - Some hylid frog, almost certainly based on either Dryophytes or Hyla
September - Any of a number of green toads, possibly genus Bufotes
October - Ceratophrys cranwelli or C. ornata
November - No idea. Could be any number of species. But given that when you ask ChatGPT for a list of ten random frogs, it almost always includes Pyxicephalus adspersus, I guess this could be a young individual of that species.
December - A glass frog, family Centrolenidae. AI is *obsessed* with Hyalinobatrachium, so it's probably a member of that genus.
As for which one is the friendliest, I have no idea, but I think it is fairly clearly the Ceratophrys that is the least friendly/most likely to actually try to hurt you.
Random person carrying a full trash bag walks up to the counter and asks if she can drop it off with me.
I ask what it is (as she didn't say).
She says it's a bunch of hangers for us to use for our clothes in the store.
I explain that we have to use specific hangers from our supplier (when we order more of these they get delivered in a box and the delivery company usually used has a uniform, they're not delivered in a trash bag by a random person in normal clothes).
She asks what she's supposed to do now if we won't accept them.
I don't know anywhere local asking for donations of specifically hangers so I say she could maybe see if someone she knows wants some.
No apparently she can't do that as most of them are broken.
Even if we were asking for random people to bring us hangers, we wouldn't be able to use broken ones! And it would have taken a lot less effort to just put them in the bin in the first place rather than dragging the bag around in public asking random clothing stores if they want broken hangers!
On Thursday night, my wife (EDS) suffered a complete loss of muscle use and motor skills.
Thanks to our tenant, we called EMS, and I took down a list of critical info (age/allergies/medical history/etc).
She was in the ER "hallway" for over 24 hours, with an attendant (Emily, spelled with a "B") who didn't give her any fluids for 14+ hours, and neglected calls for basic things, like evacuating her bowels.
Around 10pm EST yesterday, she was finally moved to a room (even though the attending nurse "lost her" in the elevator for 3-plus rides up and down before he found her.
They tried to get her to sign a DNR (she did not).
While she was in the ER, we joked (after a long lack of sleep) that it would be great if they found out it was just a lack of THE VITAMIN, and if they just gave her THE VITAMIN, everything would be okay.
I called out of work due to lack of sleep, and obviously @idiomagic hasn't been at her computer.
TODAY: She has been moved to a private room. She is gaining mobility in her extremities.
To call back 3 paragraphs, it turned out to be THE VITAMIN (or mineral, but I'm not going to get persnickety). Her body was burning through potassium so fast that it was damaging her heart.
And between (b)Emily - though after meeting her, I'd go one letter up the alphabet - neglecting @idiomagic's needs (the need to evacuate bowels, not getting her up to her room which was ready 4+ hours before she was actually moved, inducing an unnecessary edema, and coercing her to sign a DNR) she was mortified, overly-stimulated, underslept, and incoherent.
If we've not responded to messages to purchases, we will get to it - we promise!
@idiomagic may be released as soon as tomorrow, and it would be great to see a ton of messages of support (and maybe sales from her Etsy store).
AGAIN - this was a potassium deficiency issue, and I need to look into ramps and walkers so that she can get around while I'm at work.
Also, when I visited her, there was the the weirdest clock in the room, that would pause and then jump ahead 5 seconds (it was like watching a spider in a horror movie).
Customer, (cut me off): "Oh NO. Your AURA is all wrong. You do NOT get to speak to me and corrupt my CaReFuLlY CuLtIvAtEd ViBeS. No. Uh-uh, nope. You'll HAVE to get someone else."
Me: "I am the only staff member here today. If you are unhappy to speak with me, then I will have to ask you to leave."
Customer: "HOW DARE YOU. Do you WANT to lose your job?! I can have you FIRED."
Me: "I'm out of a job in two days anyway, the shop is closing down permanently. *gestures to the giant red CLOSING DOWN SALE signs plastered to every spare inch of space inside and outside the shop* Perhaps you missed the banners on the way in."
Customer: "WHERE IS YOUR BOSS?!"
Boss: *appears instantly from back room* "Good morni -"
Customer: "I REFUSE TO BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS PERSON!" *points at me*
My manager, who's on holiday with the assistant manager covering for her, messaged me during one of my shifts asking me to do something, apparently not wanting to bother the assistant manager, knowing full well that she (the manager) has banned phones while at work so I wouldn't have seen it until getting home if I was in therefore wouldn't have been able to do anything until my next shift. I'm sick so had called off and saw right away. I messaged back explaining I was ill and wasn't in. Got accused of faking it as I was "sick of the assistant manager" (assistant manager isn't very popular, I usually just keep my head down and do my tasks not fake illness). Messaged back explaining that no I'm actually genuinely sick and keep vomiting (which is the truth). Yeah she told me to feel better soon.

So apparently, over the summer, Quibi (the shortest-lasting streaming service ever lmao) did a quarantine project called “Home Movie: The Princess Bride” where a bunch of celebrities recreated The Princess Bride in tiny chunks at home.
And like there was no permanent cast, all these celebrities seem to have gotten a scene or part of a scene to do (i’m not sure exactly, I did not ever watch Quibi and thus haven’t seen this yet), and then they just… recreated it as best they could. At home. Under quarantine.
So like, you had Jennifer Garner in a blanket cape playing Princess Buttercup AND the Booing Old Woman with a crowd comprised entirely of stuffed animals:
Or Taika Waititi paying Westley off a badly-drawn Inigo on a piece of cardboard held in front of someone’s face:
And it’s all just delightful.
But my absolute favorite part of this thing that I’ve sadly never seen but assume is probably absolutely hilarious and a treasure and I want to find it some day and watch the whole thing… is that Carey Elwes is in it.
In case you need a comfort watch and because Youtube search nowadays sucks rancid farts, I remind you of the Princess Bride Home Movie from the lockdown, starring everybody
Realizing in real time that I'm not made for middle management in retail because my job is trying to make me care about things like the companies bottom line ON TOP OF running a store and doing customer engagement and i truly, deeply, do not have the capacity to even begin to care. I can feel myself burning out which is ironic because i took this promotion as a way to save money and do something low intensity while healing from the burnout of grad school. I think the thing causing my burnout is the high expectations combined with subpar training and no support. I went from being a cashier with some back office experience to running my own location with only 2 weeks of sporadic training that was all done fully virtually. Like no one has sat down with me to help me understand the operations IN PERSON.
Now I've been in this role barely a full month and I'm already planning my exit when i was initially planning to stay for as long as possible
