Woman in traditional Polish costume from Ćowicz. I picked some pictures from internet so I could practice this kind of portraits and for this one in special my reference was a picture from someone called Celestino Arce, according to Getty Images. I guess now Iâm starting to consider opening commissions for human/folkloric portraits :3

âThe Mermaid of Warsaw (Syrenka Warszawska) is a symbol of Warsaw, represented on the cityâs coat of arms and well as in a number of statues and other imagery. (âŠ) There are several legends about mermaid. The Cityâs literature and tour guides say the mermaid decided to stay after stopping on a riverbank near the Old Town. Fishermen noticed something was creating waves, tangling nets, and releasing their fish. They planned to trap the animal, then heard her singing and fell in love. A rich merchant trapped and imprisoned the mermaid. Hearing her cries, the fishermen rescued her. Ever since the mermaid, armed with a sword and a shield, has been ready to help protect the city and its residents.â - Warsaw Legends.

âsimplicity is the final achievement. after one has played a vast quantity of notes and more notes, it is simplicity that emerges as the crowning reward of art.â

Title: Poland rule over Austria Author:Â caitinka
A/N:
âexplanation time! âŠThe fact is that between 1895 and 1897 Austriaâs Minister-President was Polish aristocrat, count Kazimierz Felix Badeni and that some ministers of Austria were ethnically Polish. itâs an example of Austriaâs politics towards Polish people; they were given many rights, actually. but the funniest example that Iâve heard about is case of some Polish man (I donât remember his name now), who called Franz Joseph "stary pierdoĆaâ which in Polish means something like âold fartâ. In Prussia or Russia partition that man would be immediately punished, but in Austria he had right to defence. Moreover, he proved that âstary pierdoĆaâ in Polish means the same as âmiĆy staruszekâ (âkind old manâ) XD /so wasnât punished at all/ and you know what? Poles wanted to do the same thing in RUSSIA 8DD"
HmmmmÂ
August der Starke - âFrederick Augustus I or Augustus II the Strong was Elector of Saxony (as Frederick Augustus I), Imperial Vicar and became King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania (as Augustus II).
Augustusâs great physical strength earned him the nicknames "the Strong,â âthe Saxon Herculesâ and âIron-Hand.â He liked to show that he lived up to his name by breakinghorseshoes with his bare hands and engaging in fox tossing with a single finger.â - wikiÂ
Heinrich der Löwe  - âHenry the Lion a member of theWelf dynasty and Duke of Saxony, as Henry III, from 1142, and Duke of Bavaria, asHenry XII, from 1156, which duchies he held until 1180.â - wiki
January Uprising by ~Janemin
âThe January Uprising (Polish: powstanie styczniowe, Lithuanian: 1863 m. sukilimas, Belarusian: ĐаŃŃŃĐ°ĐœĐœĐ” 1863-1864 ĐłĐ°ĐŽĐŸŃ) was an uprising in the former Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (present-day Poland, Lithuania, Belarus, Latvia, parts of Ukraine, western Russia) against the Russian Empire. It began on 22 January 1863 and lasted until the last insurgents were captured in 1865.
The uprising began as a spontaneous protest by young Poles against conscription into the Imperial Russian Army, and was soon joined by high-ranking Polish-Lithuanian officers and various politicians. The insurrectionists, severely outnumbered and lacking serious outside support, were forced to resort to guerrilla warfare tactics. They failed to win any major military victories or capture any major cities or fortresses, but they did blunt the effect of the Tsarâs abolition of serfdom in the Russian partition, which had been designed to draw the support of peasants away from the nation. Severe reprisals against insurgents, such as public executions and deportations to Siberia, led many people to abandon armed struggle and turn instead to the idea of âorganic workâ: economic and cultural self-improvement.â (Wikipedia)

According to Wikipedia:
âGood relations between Poland and Hungary date back to the Middle Ages. Louis the Great was King of Hungary and Croatia from 1342 and King of Poland from 1370 until his death in 1382. He was his fatherâs heir, Charles I of the House of Anjou-Sicily (King of Hungary and Croatia) and his uncleâs heir, Casimir III the Great (King of Poland - the last ruler of Piast dynasty). King Casimir had no legitimate sons. Apparently, in order to provide a clear line of succession and avoid dynastic uncertainty, he arranged for his nephew, King Louis I of Hungary, to be his successor in Poland. In the 15th century, the two countries briefly shared the same king again, Poland's WĆadysĆaw III of Varna, who perished, aged barely twenty, fighting the Turks at Varna, Bulgaria. In the 16th century, Poland elected as her king a Hungarian nobleman, Stefan Batory, who is regarded as one of Polandâs greatest kings.â
I find this an incredibly emotional piece. If youâve seen the movie, youâll understand why. It seems that Poland is Ben Kingsleyâs character, Germany is Liam Neesonâs character, and Prussia is Ralph Fienneâs character.
