I noticed that the three distinct life stages we see Olivia in have so much reversed Maiden Mother Crone symbolism.
The Maiden is a symbol of innocence, purity, empathy, curiosity and joy. Ironically, at this life stage, we see Olivia at her most apathetic, corrupt, cruel, sheltered and emotionless.
It's almost as if this is her default state, and everything else is a learned behavior to remain socially acceptable.
The Mother is a symbol of generosity, duty, care, love and selflessness. And again, here we see her embodying the opposite with greed, reckless capital, influence, control and selfishness.
She clearly has teams of people caring for Gwen when she's busy, less of a Mother and more of an owner.
The Crone is where things get interesting. The Crone symbolizes maturity, wisdom, purpose, fulfillment, and acceptance of death. And of course, again, she remains the opposite. Regressed, petulant, dependent and desperately clinging to life.
Now, I could probably contrast this with the main cast with how they represent the positive qualities of the triple goddess.
The way I see it, Frankie represents all of the positive qualities of the Maiden, Gwen represents all of the positive qualities of the Mother and Andie represents all of the positive qualities of the Crone.
Do I think this was intentional?
Dana made a whole show about witches, and went for primarily sun, moon and stars themed character designs when making KOG, so I don't think it's out of the question, but I'm not so sure it was intentional.
It could probably tell us something about how the show might continue going forward, though.
