I had a personal investment in the backing video of a person wearing a mask and touching their stomach in bed that was used during Worlock on most of the US tour, so I admit I was disappointed that Tim got rid of it for the Euro tour. The pulsing latticework stuff worked amazingly, though. At a certain spot, it would completely flatten out across the decidedly three-dimensional objects on the stage, including a decidedly three-dimensional Ogre, and momentarily warp your sense of perception. At one show, Tim mixed in bits of the Worlock video, as a nod to Gary, who had directed it back in the day. I wonder if anyone caught it.

I think this will be the end of this particular dip into the nostalgia bag. Thanks for reading. I’m not even sure this blog was the proper place for it, but I wanted to get down some of the memories that had burbled up into the surface of my skull while listening to the live album. Maybe at some point in the future I will delve into further tales of exploding toes, fruit wars, and how we ended up showering to Europe performing the Final Countdown. Until then, I will return to posting the self-consciously titled pictures of rusty things you’ve come to know and adore.

Skinny Puppy: Ogre Live in Cervia, Italy

Most of the show I was busy so I rarely got pictures of the show itself, and when I did it was on the tiny point and shoot that I kept in my pocket so they all came out awfully. The stage in Italy was set up such that I couldn’t do my typical tasks during the show and instead was able to be out in the crowd. I spent it taking pictures with my “good” camera from the back standing on chairs. They all came out horribly too. The costume only really comes to life within Tim’s projections, which you can’t see in this shot, but I do like this just for some of the details on the mask. There’s hair and even a few teeth embedded in it.

Justin lives in Italy and has family and friends there, so it felt, in a way, like a hometown show. I still occasionally wake up in a cold sweat in the middle of the night calling out desperately for the sublime deliciousness that was our dinner.

Ohkayyyy big post about this weekend!!! I am beyond happy. I will not shut up about this I apologize. But how does one be normal after meeting the coolest man on earth two times? And the fact that he watched my Skinny Puppy YouTube video and said it was the best one on the web made me beyond happy. Before I left he grabbed my shoulders and told me he'll be on the lookout for more videos from me. He said I had read his mind when talking about Skinny Puppy during that video essay, which is the best thing I could've heard. I gave him my art, gave him friendship bracelets, had an in depth conversation about life and anxiety and art, hugged him twice (he squeezes), shook his hand twice, got playfully punched in the hallway passing, sat front row during his interview, and he really liked my jacket 🥹 My mom took a video from the second day where I ask him to draw a bug. Ignore my voice and how cringy I am, I was trying so hard to be calm cool and collected. First day was more nerve-wracking, but we talked for about 15 mins. Second day was easier because he recognized me and I didn't feel like I needed to stumble over that process of meeting again lol. I was so nervous though and when I tell you this man made me feel so at ease quickly 😭 he really does like to yap, I could listen to him talk forever. It was just so wonderful, I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Now I'm having post-ogre depression...

Oh my god I'm meeting Nivek Ogre in May at Crypticon in Seattle AH. Anyone who's met him before please share your experiences, I'm honestly kinda nervous. I'm gonna double check with the Con but I'd love to print out two of my skinny puppy art pieces and give it to him! They say to never meet your idols but... I need to tell him thank you, even if that's all I am able to utter out in the moment!
