Just a quick update since iâve been dead for the past... while. I know I already take a lot of time between updates, but Iâve recently landed a full time job, and to be really frank, Iâm dead working around 44 hours a week and I need some time to adjust, as well as work on finding an apartment. I donât plan on abandoning SkyClan, Iâm just going through a tumultuous time and I donât have much time or muse, so I apologise.Â
Goldenkit wriggled forward, and her head popped out of the pile of kits. She heard Brightnose purr quietly from behind her; the queen was curled around the sleeping pile, watching them rest.
hereâs some skyclan designs i did awhile ago that im now confident enough to submit haha, i really like the idea of skyâs white patches kinda looking like clouds
also im not great with cat poses but this is just a ref so eeeehhh???
HI LOOK AT THEM??? I REALLY LIKE THE CLOUD PATTERNS ON SKY I NEVER THOUGHT OF THAT.... THIS IS SO GOOD THANK YOU SO MUCH
Oh Iâm loving everything about this! I love Filbert and Skyâs friendship, I love the way we can see a clan system forming, all the characters are super enjoyable! Basically, Iâm looking forward to all of this!
Iâm really happy to hear that! I had been worrying on and off that this wouldnât be as interesting as other rewrites / reimaginings since itâs very... full of fluff with minimal drama. Itâs really nice to hear that people genuinely are enraptured by the characters, and it makes me happy to know that everyone is looking forward to this.
Sky is that type of gay who just shouts about it all the time, isnât she? (âHave a good gay!â âIM here, Iâm queerâ âwow ___ is gay, just like me!â)
Youâve cracked the code, Sky is just me.
In reality, Iâm not sure sheâs 100% figured it out yet. Mottle makes her feel.. all sorts of warm and happy and she kinda gets why but it hasnât hit her with the full âo fuck im gayâ quite yet.Â
Mottle knows. Sheâs the confident lesbian we all wish we could be.
I also donât know if I conveyed it enough, though it was probably obvious -- Filbert is both declawed and neutered. His owners werenât hot on the clawing the furniture thing. Heâs goe some nasty chronic pain in his front paws, which is why heâs not hot on joining the clan right away (and why Sky feels bad about pushing it).
Sky was still riding high on the success of the naming, and there was still plenty of time left in the night to go and work it off.
She had paused briefly before running off, Mottle having stopped her.
âYou did a fine job,â she said, the warmth in her tone making Sky feel hot all the way to her extremities.
âThank you,â Sky managed, trying to sound some level of authoritative, but it was lost in the way that she had to choke the words out.
Mottle butted her head against Skyâs chest, purring, and Sky could almost feel herself melting. Once the other molly moved back, Sky moved past her, purposefully brushing her pelt against Mottleâs. âIâll be back soon.â
After that, she hopped to climb up the side of the gorge, forcing herself not to look back.
At first, she just figured she might take a walk, work off some of that energy that settled in her paws, but instead, she walked towards the houses, wanting to talk about her personal victories with another friend.
Lucky for her, Filbert was outside, and before she had walked halfway across the lawn, he called, âDonât you look pleased with yourself?â
âDo I?â she asked as she padded closer, though she knew she didnât need to ask. She was sure that her joy was radiating off of her like a sun.
âWhat happened?â he asked, evidently picking up on the fact that she was bursting to spill.
Unable to sit, as if her paws were fill with electricity, Sky paced as she spoke, explaining the idea of names to Filbert, and that she had had the chance to name one of her clan members tonight. He seemed almost amused, watching her, and he listened patiently and quietly.
She found herself automatically leaving out the part about Mottle, though she wasnât sure why.
Filbert seemed impressed regardless, and when she finished, he nodded in warm approval. âThatâs wonderful to hear, Sky.â For once, it didnât sound like he was entertaining her, and it seemed like he was genuinely proud of her. The realization made her want to ask something, but she was a little hesitant.
âI was wondering,â she said, scuffing her paw against the concrete of the patio. âWould you want to give it a try?â
He didnât seem surprised, and Sky could guess that he had been expecting the question, and she was almost worried that he would deny her. She knew she couldnât be mad. Filbert, more than most other cats, wasnât suited for clan life, or feral life in general, but he was her closest friend, and she would want nothing more than for him to be with her on this. She would protect him on her own if she had to.
There was a long silence, which felt a bit too heavy for the good mood Sky had been in, before Filbert finally spoke.
âI can come check it out, I think,â he said. âI really donât know about joining, Sky.â
The idea that he was willing to look was enough for her for now. She knew it was selfish of her to so desperately want him as a part of her clan, all things considered, but she really would love for him to be there. It would mean a lot.
âI would be happy if you came to look,â she said kindly, and he nodded, standing up from his spot and moving to follow her.
She led him over the fence and to the side of the gorge. The only cat milling around outside was Murk, who was asleep on one of the flat rocks. Mottle must have gone inside, and Sky guessed that Crookedclaw and Snowflake might have gone out to hunt.
Sky paused, looking for the best spot to start heading down, and there was a relatively easy path close by. She paced over to start slowly down, looking behind her to watched Filbert. The stone wasnât slippery, so she doubted he would slide, but Sky, unlike him, could use her claws to balance herself.
Luckily, it was an easy trip down, and she heard Filbert heave a sigh after he hit solid, even ground. She wished that Snowflake and Crookedclaw had not left, because she would like for them to meet Filbert, but she hadnât asked them to stick around, so she couldnât be upset.
Automatically, she found herself glancing over the open caves, wondering which one might be the best fit for him. She didnât think he could get up to her den, and the one sheâd picked out for her warriors would be difficult to get to, as well. With him being unable to hunt, she didnât know how useful he would even be, but Sky did always come to him for advice, and she found him easy to talk to. He could help her level her head and she trusted him with practically anything.
An idea had started forming somewhere in the back of her mind, but before it could finish, Filbert cleared his throat and she started, almost having forgotten he was there. âItâs really nice, Sky,â he said. âI think this is the first time youâve brought me down here.â
That much was true, any time he had come close it had been near the edge and never down to the base. She had never thought he would have wanted to, as much as she appreciated him following her down tonight. He continued after she nodded at him. âThis is really nice. Iâm glad that youâve gotten so far in this. I know how excited you were, and from what youâve told me, this might succeed.â
Sky kneaded the ground for a moment, knowing what she wanted to ask, but unsure if she should.
Filbert must have picked up on this. âI still donât know about joining,â he said. âYou know I wonât do well living like this, and I canât help you provide.â
Sky opened her mouth as if to say something, but Filbert continued before she could. âBut â let me give it some thought. Maybe we can figure out something.â
Sky nodded, feeling that idea spark again in the back of her mind. âOkay,â she said, feeling that that was a better answer than she had hoped for. She looked back up the gorge, and figured he might want a paw getting back up. She almost felt bad for leading him down here for very little, but he didnât seem to mind.
As she followed him back up the path, she let herself consider what he could do for her clan, and as they parted at the top, she sat there for a while, staring at the human fences, her mind racing.
Sorry if this is a spoiler, but with how Sky felt about Mottle in thr last chapter, is she a possible love interest?
Now Iâm wondering if I didnât make it obvious enough, huh.
In case it wasnât pretty clear, they kind of have a mutual thing going. Itâs not really explicit between them or anything, but at the very least, Sky is Big Gay for Mottle and Mottle is proud of her (girl?)friend.Â
They probably havenât talked about it. Skyâs the sort that canât talk well about Feelings. She has a lot of them, but she doesnât know how to tell the pretty calico sheâs a lesbab.Â
Okay, so I actually realise now how confusing that must have been.
A lot of it admittedly has to do with my own thought process -- Iâm ADHD, so I tend to go from point a to point j and assume that everyone can follow that logic. So admittedly, part of that is my own fault for forgetting that other people donât think like me.
Anyway, her thought process was âi really donât know what fits his personality, but homeboy has some weird paws. i can work with that.â which I realise now does not make a whole lot of sense, writing it out.
Iâm glad everyone likes his name as much as he does!
And no, he wonât be falling in love with Sky, donât worry. Thatâs far too cliche for my tastes and better suited to a different type of story. I didnât even intend romance, but I think you kids can deal with a little not-so-subtle gay pining.
