🌟 🌠Self Care Tip: Keep a positivity journal. 🌠🌟
Unlike a regular diary where you log the details of your day to day life, both the good and the bad, a positivity journal is meant to be filled with nothing but the good in order to create a space where you can focus only on the positive things in life that you can then look through when you’re feeling negative in order to cheer yourself up.
Some ideas for things you can keep in a positivity journal are:
💛Compliments people have given you
💛A list of good gifts you have received
💛Descriptions of cute animals you’ve seen while out and about
💛Quotes that inspire you or make you feel happy
💛Newspaper clippings of good news stories
💛Puns or other jokes that have made you laugh
💛A list of music that makes you happy
💛Pictures or art that you like
💛Your best memories from childhood
💛Stickers or stamps
💛A list of self-care activities/tips that have worked for you
💛Coloring pages you’ve completed
💛A list of things you like about yourself
And pretty much just ANYTHING that makes you happy, makes you feel better about yourself, or reminds you that there is good in the world and in your life!

Self-Love Devotional Altar
We tend to hear a lot in our witchy circles about keeping an altar devoted to your craft or your deities or “just because”, but with our focus on Self Love for February, I wanted to put a little spin on your average altar, and offer up some tips for creating and using one that’s devoted to loving yourself and your craft. While the majority of the tips below are geared towards a physical altar that takes up space, with some creativity you can easily take the concepts and apply them to a paper or shoebox altar, or even a digital one!
Creating Your Altar
First, set up and cleanse your space, dedicating it to be used as your altar. This isn’t to say that the space will always be used for this purpose, but it’s important to specify it so that its focus is entirely on what you want - to be better at loving and accepting yourself. This can be achieved by wiping the surface down with a household cleaner and cloth, placing an altar cloth or protective cover on the surface, setting up a boundary (visible or not) that separates it from other objects on the surface, etc. You can cleanse with incense or smoke, moon water, energy, anything!
Set down the object that will represent “you” in the center, at the back. This can be anything from a photo of you, a taglock, an object that you hold dear to yourself, a tarot card that you feel symbolises you, a personal sigil, a candle, et cetera. The item itself isn’t the important factor here. What matters is that you can identify yourself with that item, so that any energy directed through the altar will come to you.
Set down elements that represent your craft. You can get super creative here if you want! Do you have deities? Maybe put down little symbols for them! Are you a green witch? Dried herbs! A Sea witch? Shells or a vial of sea water! If you want to incorporate all four elements, you can totally do that. If you’re into shadow work, set down two candles: one for your outward face, and one for your Shadow. There are no hard and fast rules to this unless you implement them yourself.
Set down other aesthetic elements. A lot of guides towards decorating altars seem to imply that everything on an altar needs to have dedicated symbolic meanings. I don’t think that’s entirely fair. This is an altar dedicated to you so you should have things on it that you like. Are you a fan of jewellery? Put it on there! Crystals? Hell yeah! Tiny statues of corgis? Why not! A pretty space that you feel like is yours because it’s full of the things you like will help you maintain focus that the space is yours, as well as perhaps encourage you to use it more because it’s full of your favourite things!
Keep an area clear for your working space in the center. To denote this area as separate from others, you can use a bowl or plate, draw a circle, or simply leave it bare. Altars are meant to be used, not just looked at, so you need to keep a space large enough that it’ll be practical for you to do workings, leave offerings, place candles, a tarot card or two, etc. As large as you feel is necessary, or is practical given the space you’re working with.
Using Your Altar
Altars are, fundamentally, fancy working spaces, so in order for you to reap the benefits of it, you need to actually use it! Here are some general tips for using your altar to direct yourself towards self-love:
Leave offerings to yourself. Think of it like “food for the soul”. It doesn’t necessarily have to be food - it can be anything really - but the whole point is to feed your energy things that you enjoy, or that you want to bring more of into your life.
Spend dedicated time before it. You can call this “Me Time” if you want. Light a tea candle or a birthday candle (something small that will burn out relatively quickly) if you can, and almost use it as a timer for your dedication. During this time, you can meditate, read a book, do something you’ve been putting off but you know will benefit you in the long run, work on your craft, do a tarot reading, anything! Dedicate this time to a specific purpose, that you are actively present for, and acknowledge that you are loving yourself by being present in your own dang life.
If it’s not working, change it up. Your altar isn’t something that needs to stay as it was the day you made it, collecting dust (Your altar should never collect dust! Take care of it as you would take care of yourself!). Not feeling the shells or all the candles? Take them off, replace them with something else. Decorate it for the seasons or the holidays. Invite deities or the fae to dine at it by leaving offerings (though, as always, be careful when working with other spirits in “your” space). It’s your space, the only person you need to impress is yourself.
Make sure to cleanse regularly. Just like you’d bathe everyday or every other day, so should your altar receive the love and attention it deserves. Wipe off the dust, refill dried up water vessels, replace burnt out candles with new ones, remove old food offerings, et cetera. Keeping a fresh, clean altar may perhaps help you feel fresher and cleaner as well, though if it’s becoming too much effort and you aren’t reaping the benefits, you should sit down and analyse what you can do to change it so you are.
Stay focused. While you don’t need to be thinking “I love myself” every moment of every day, when using your altar, keep in mind why it’s there, what purpose it’s serving, and what you want from the experience. Ultimately, by using your altar and spending this dedicated time to acknowledge the love you deserve, you should find yourself more attentive to your own physical and emotional needs, as well as how addressing them better can fit into your life.

✨An Altar to Yourself ✨
Feeling especially down or inadequate about something? Not sure where to currently go in terms of your practice? Then, why not dedicate an altar to yourself? If you are anything like me, you began dabbling in witchcraft for deep personal reasons - it is a flexible practice in which you can choose a truly independent practice that is all your own. I have found that, in times of feeling stuck (“Witch’s Block,” if you will), I realize that I need to draw my spirit back to myself. Why did *you* become interested in magick? Who *is* the person that is so fascinated by this realm? In those instances of self-hatred, remind yourself of who you are. Of why you love the things you love, and of just how beautiful it is to be your own person, completely “you” in every way. Dedicating a small sacred space to your own unique spirit is a simple, lovely thing to do for yourself. Items to Include:
• Do you have an absolute favorite crystal, stone, or rock? Take some extra time to really charge your little pal with your own special energy, and place it in the center of your shrine. ✨
• The same goes for incense or oils - what smell *always* makes you happy? Treat yourself to the beauty of smell by including a sentimental incense, oils, flowers, or candles that are extra special to you. 🕯
• Altars don’t need to be limited to crystals, candles, and incense. Why not add some photos of people or things you love (including yourself)!!! Include some happy, visual memories - notes from loved ones, favorite quotes, photos of your pet, or even just clipouts/printouts of random things that make you smile. 🖼
• Fill a small bowl with salt! Salt is protective, and adding some to an altar all about you will assist in the strengthening and guarding of your spirit. 🔮
• Add anything - literally, anything - that is close to your heart or speaks to your soul. This could include special gifts you’ve received, an award that you’re proud of, a book you love, a statue of a favorite deity or animal, something passed down to you from a family member, a favorite toy or stuffed animal, a tarot card that is sentimental to you, a movie ticket from a film you adored! There are no limits here. :-) 💖
• Get mushy - write a love letter to yourself! There have *got* to be things that you like about who you are, no matter how easy it is to get down on ourselves. Make a list of the little quirks that you fancy about yourself. On the other side of the paper, write a list of things you wish to change. 💌 ♡
🌸 Witchy Positivity Journals 🌸
First things first…what’s a “witchy” positivity journal? A positivity journal is like a regular journal, except that you use it to store positive thoughts, and positive energy. Instead of venting and scrawling all of your negativity into it, you use it to inspire, motivate, and condition yourself into think more positively. It becomes “witchy” or “magical” when you allow it to be so. Consecrate it, fill it with positive magical energy and experiences, etc.
Wouldn’t this just make it a positivity grimoire? No, absolutely not. A grimoire, or book of shadows, records spells, knowledge, etc about the craft, where this doesn’t necessarily have to include that (though it can if you want, it’s your journal after all!) This is a personal book about you, your thoughts, your feelings, and your inspirations and aspirations, magical or not. But, as a witch, making everything a magical experience is very cathartic and uplifting on it’s own, don’t you think?
How does this pertain to witchcraft? Great question! It’s all about energy, and intent, honey bee! You are imbuing this book with your positive vibrations, you’re writing with the intent of becoming a happier, and more optimistic person. Now, doesn’t that sound like magic to you?
What gets put into a witchy positivity journal? That’s the fun of it, sweetheart, you can put absolutely anything in it you want. But here are a few suggestions:
🌸 Positive thoughts and affirmations 🌸 Inspiring and motivating quotes 🌸 Self-care and self-love spells 🌸 Lists of magical items that bring you positivity (crystals, herbs, etc) 🌸 Recipes for tinctures, elixirs, etc, that make you feel good 🌸 Things you’re looking forward to 🌸 Deity work, spiritual work, energy work, etc 🌸 Good things that have happened to you that day 🌸 Draw and charge positivity sigils on the pages 🌸 Record dreams that give you hope 🌸 Track your magical progress and magical goals 🌸 Literally anything that makes you happier and more optimistic
At the end of the day, this is your journal and you can do whatever you want with it. As a witch myself, and someone who tends to be pretty negative, and low on energy, practicing the craft by constantly doing spells, rituals, etc, can suck up all of my energy and free time. So, I started journaling, but making it a magical experience, and it’s been so helpful. I’m sure people have heard of this idea before, but I felt the need to share this idea with other witches, especially other spoonie witches, because it makes you feel active in your practice, while also reserving some of your spoons!
Stay inspired, witchy, and positive honey bees!
It’s official, I’m priest-kin... (3rd time’s the charm for confirming it)
tbh I previously thought that I was also angelkin (from the previous person whom confirmed my priestkin self for the second time), but it was in fact that my past selves worked often with angelic beings.
The medieval ceremonial magick and Rosicrucian things somewhat surprised me, but I’ve been fascinated with occult stuff from a young age uwu
