it feels real , smells real — face is buried in the others shoulder , tears dampening that same cape he used to nestle himself in for comfort when he was so small . it comes crashing down just how badly he had longed for this day to come , but never had he entertained the thought that it really would . some dreams were impossible to come into fruition - at least that’s what he thought , until now .
small sniffles can be heard as he clings to him in the grass , ‘ you didn’t leave on purpose . . don’t apologise . ’ the bard shouldn’t have to be burdened with guilt because of something out of his control ; the eons of silent grief the wind sprite had felt wasn’t his fault . ‘ it’s been so long . . ’
barbatos wonders if venti even knew how long it had truly been / he looks exactly the same as the day he left , as though he had been frozen in time . ( could this be her doing . . ? ) he sighs , doubtful that even this miracle would be within her abilities .
‘ i wish i could have helped more back then — ’ an insignificant wind sprite planting seeds of change , but it still wanted to do so much more . if he had been more , maybe he could have done more to protect his friends . if only . .
Venti can’t help the way his heart burns with guilt, especially seeing how quickly the other fell into tears. Arms wrap around the other, quietly brushing his fingers through hair, shifting the hat that lay there that had been disrupted in the motion. Each sniffle shattered more and more of his heart as he glanced down at the other, pale blues sparkling with something like brotherly affection toward the being there.
“ . . . I still feel as if I should. “ Just because he didn’t do it on purpose, didn’t mean the hurt left was any less. A burn of something settled in his throat, wondering why Barbatos was left alone. Where was everyone? Why weren’t they supporting him in the way he deserved ? Ragnvindr, Amos . . . ?
However, his attention would not be affected for long, eyes focusing back on Barbatos before a harsh frown made it’s way across his features.
“ . . . You did everything, Barbatos. If you hadn’t encouraged me, I would never had found the strength to move forward. If you weren’t there, I’d probably have died without seeing anything, without doing anything. No matter what happened, I don’t regret my actions one bit. “ Another hug, quietly pulling the other close into a cloak smelling of flowers and lingering smoke of war.
