FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Jennifer Fisher (202) 285-9296 [email protected] DC FASHION INCUBATOR at MACY’ UNVEIL FALL/Winter 2016 COLLECTIONS W Washington D.C. Presents Fashion Show and Pop-up Shops Featuring DFCI Designers Washington, D.C. (February 5, 2016) — The DC Fashion Incubator at Macy’s Metro Center announced the exhibition of fall and winter 2016 collections from the Designers-in-Residence Feb. 3 at the W Washington D.C. hotel in an extravaganza popping with runway swag and temporary showrooms that raised the standard for the fashion industry in the nation’s capital. Presentation By Ollie Quinn Attracting over 200 guests including buyers, bloggers and corporate executives from Macy’s New York, the fashion show and pop-up shops featured the inspired works of the inaugural class of Designers-in-Residence at the DC Fashion Incubator (DCFI) at Macy’s Metro Center, which launched in 2015 as a partnership between the DC Fashion Foundation and Macy’s. The DC Fashion Incubator is the brainchild of the DC Fashion Foundation, which was the first and only organization of its kind in this region. The DC Fashion Foundation’s leadership has led to local government incentives to recruit fashion-related businesses, arts education programs that have served over 300 students, and in 2010, the first congressional apparel manufacturing and fashion business caucus. “We are excited to present the brilliant collections of our DCFI designers, who have worked so hard to master their craft and gain the business expertise necessary to elevate the D.C. area’s fashion industry to greater heights and further drive our region’s creative economy,” said DC Fashion Foundation founder and CEO Christine Brooks-Cropper. Presentation By Tsemaya Binitie DCFI is the fourth and latest location in a highly successful initiative established by Macy’s in Chicago, Philadelphia and San Francisco. The DC Fashion Incubator at Macy’s Metro Center guides six locally based designers and two designers from Peru and Ghana, Africa through business exchange programs between those two countries and the District of Columbia. The eight DCFI Designers-in-Residence receive training to round out their skills, including 900 square feet of workspace on the fourth floor at Macy’s Metro Center and training on the business side of the industry, such as apparel manufacturing/production, business and financial planning, branding, legal assistance and infrastructure support. The DC Fashion Foundation recently entered a U.S. Trade and Investment Expansion Partnership with the International Trade Administration at the U.S. Department of Commerce. The arrangement is designed to increase awareness of the economic benefits of trade and educate fashion entrepreneurs on trade activities as a strategy for job creation and growth. ### Sponsors of DC Fashion Incubator at Macy’s Metro Center include the District of Columbia Planning and Economic Development Office (DMPED), the U.S Small Business Administration, We Are DC, Macy’s Metro Center, American University, Covington & Burling Law Firm, Burson-Marsteller strategic communications, PromPeru, Frallain African Fashion Fund and Prince George’s County Arts and Humanities Council. Wow! 2015 is almost over. I can’t believe it flew by this fast. It was an emotional and life changing experience, but nevertheless it was worth it. Not to mention, I accomplished so much despite the problems I endured. My success was based on decisions I MADE. Last year around the same time, it's amazing how time flies! First, I surrounded myself with positive people. Next, I started setting challenging and realistic goals. This unfolded when I created a Vision Board. It was my go to inspiration when things seemed impossible. It was my declaration to the universe that I could accomplish anything I wanted to. At our first Vision Board party with Raro Lae and Chant'l Martin. At this very table the idea of Meetings of the Mind (MOTM) was born. Creating a Vision Board is Powerful: * It helps you identify your vision and clarify it. * It’s a daily reminder of what YOU will accomplish. If you speak your dreams into existence the universe will work in your favor. * The board will give you something to smile about even on your toughest days. Don't wait until 2016 to start planning. Grab some friends and make it happen. You can also join us on Saturday, Dec. 5th for our Vision Board Potluck! RSVP via email at [email protected]. Space is limited. If your reading this after the 5th, then you missed one kick ass event.
