love it when an extremely high-functioning and put-together character gets slammed with something that would topple any lesser person but continues to function in an alarmingly efficient manner while everyone who knows and cares about them flutters anxiously around them like "please lie down please rest please accept medical attention" while the high-functioning character just looks askance at all their concerned faces like "what are you talking about? I'm perfectly fine" as tiny cracks start appearing in their demeanor and facade

Being online all these years exposes you to all genres of insincere, miserable people. Over time I've made them a reference point on how not to live my life.

Expanding on this, people are never casual about their words. To treat and believe your words casual is itself a deliberate choice, even if subconsciously.

So before engaging with anyone ever, I need to consider where their words come from.

If someone is lacing their every opinion with 'hot take', 'unpopular opinion' or some variant of dramatics are they actually in it for the love of the medium? Or are they more concerned with dumb fandom politics?

That's a light example, but the thinking scales fine. We see the thoughts of thousands of people every day; if their words aren't coming from a sincere place they aren't worth your time.
