// Added Galahad to my muses :3
// Updated my muse pages for my Arthurian muses, mostly tweaking Mordred's backstory a bit. Hopefully will add Galahad tomorrow!
Please feel free to send things in for my babies. I love writing with them and love starting new things. Alternatively, send me a message and let's plot!!
We have Arthur and Mordred (@skyfiresmuses) and we have Lucio (@cicero-the-assassin)! I was doing sketches but then I had IDEAS for Arthur and Mordred together. I put so much symbolism into those two. (Ask if you want the ramble)
Thank you for letting me draw them!
// I'm thinking about darker themes for some of my muses, but I worry about people not wanting to write with them if I include darker aspects of their backstory.

“forgive my intrusion. have we met before?”
“you walk as one accustomed to long roads.”
“it is rare to find another soul in this place.”

“you seem far from home, stranger.”
“your robes speak of refinement, yet your eyes tell another story.”
“may i share your fire for a while?”
“it seems fate has led our paths to cross.”
“you handle that weapon with care. a practitioner, perhaps?”
“have you come seeking fortune, or fleeing something?”
“i did not expect company in such a lonely place.”
“you carry a heavy heart. the road must have been unkind.”
“are you a wanderer, or one with a destination in mind?”
“you move with discipline. do you belong to a sect?”
“the way you observe the horizon... what do you see there?”
“i could not help but notice your talisman. a charm for protection?”
“you seem unafraid, even here. that is uncommon.”
“your presence disturbs the silence yet i do not mind it.”
“do you often travel alone, or am i witnessing a rare moment?”
“you look as though you’ve seen ghosts.”
“the stars are kind tonight. perhaps that is why we meet.”
“a name has power. would you share yours?”
“i sense a story behind those eyes.”
“the tea is still warm, if you would sit and rest.”
“do you always meet strangers so fearlessly?”
“you wear no crest or banner, are you unaffiliated?”
“your aura feels… unfamiliar. what manner of cultivation is that?”
“there’s something about you the heavens seem to favor.”
“the world is wide, and yet we cross paths here. curious, isn’t it?”
“your silence speaks louder than words.”
“you carry an old wound. is it battle, or memory?”
“do you seek shelter, or solitude?”
“you’ve seen much, and yet your gaze holds wonder.”
“your voice carries conviction. you must believe in something deeply.”
“even the moon seems to follow you.”
“if i did not know better, i’d say destiny enjoys such meetings.”
“you seem out of place, or perhaps the place is out of time.”
“tell me, stranger. what is it you’re searching for?”
“the night is long. shall we pass it in conversation?”
“your weapon hums faintly. is it bound to your spirit?”
“you don’t avert your gaze. most would.”
“that pendant... it resembles one i once saw in the capital.”
“has the road been kind to you, or cruel?”
“you seem weary, but your steps haven’t faltered.”
“do you believe in omens?”
“you have the bearing of someone who’s seen battle.”
“tell me truthfully, do you trust me?”
“your presence feels... familiar, like a dream i’ve forgotten.”
“you stand as though waiting for someone.”
“if i asked what you’ve lost, would you answer?”
“your hands are steady. a healer’s, perhaps?”
“the forest seems quieter since you arrived.”
“you remind me of someone... though i cannot say who.”
“do you always travel under the moon’s light?”
“you seem untouched by fear. is that wisdom, or recklessness?”
“if we had met under gentler skies, would you still look at me this way?”
“the scent of rain follows you. were you caught in a storm?”
“i wonder, what kind of person leaves footprints like yours?”
“if fate is kind, perhaps our paths will cross again.”

"Don’t flatter yourself."
"What took you so long?"
Fiorelle froze for a moment, staring at him after he made his vow. Some combination of incredulity, gratitude, and wariness crossed her face. Her lips parted as if to say something, but instead she looked away, listening for a moment.
"You do not understand," she murmured at last, as quiet as she could possibly be. "I am no mere prospect. I am a runaway. They paid a great deal of coin for--please, i-if they see you are aiding me..." Her words trailed as the distant voices and bootsteps became louder. A branch snapped somewhere beyond the trees, and Fiorelle flinched so hard her shoulder struck the trunk behind her. "Please, you must leave if they find us. They will hurt you for helping me."
The fear was palpable on this woman. The way she flinched and the way her voice shook sent fury through Lancelot's heart — not fury at the woman, of course, but at those who would see her enslaved. His grip tightened on the hilt of his sword and his jaw tensed.
“I will not abandon you,” he said fiercely, the idea of turning and fleeing away from someone in need making his stomach churn. “Let them come. I will not see you in chains.”
He was a strong fighter and he knew it, but their prospects depended on how many of their enemy approached. Even Lancelot could not fell an army on his own, but he would stand and die fighting if that was what it took for the innocent to get away.
She saw the bittersweetness that touched his features for a moment as he spoke of his brothers. She thought of little Chrysothemis, and her heart warmed.
"Your father seems a wise sort," she said matter-of factly. "How can you rule if you have no idea of the outside world?"
Iphigenia's gaze returned to the glimmering sea. "Would that everyone could find a happy medium. Perhaps then there would be no need for war."
Gawain tilted his head to the side, considering. "I suppose he is wise, yes," he agreed after a moment. "He's beloved by his people and he's a fair ruler. I suppose he must be doing something right."
But King Lot could be a harsh father. He wanted his sons to be soldiers rather than boys from the day they were old enough to walk, wanted them to lift a sword by the time they could grab hold of a toy. He'd been especially hard on young Mordred, who was not his by blood. And he expected much of Gawain, as his eldest and heir.
He chewed on the inside of his cheek. "Wars are often waged due to ideas of honor," he agreed with a shake of his head. "If only there was a way to make everyone happy." How many wars would he be expected to fight once he was king? How many deaths were to be on his hands?
His gaze landed on the princess, a smile blooming across his face. "What would make you happy, my lady? Right here and now."
@skyfiresmuses liked for a starter with Aegyp
He clicked his beak at her, curious, with red and blue eyes taking in every inch of the stranger. His head straightened almost immediately, no longer tilted and turned to get a better look at her.
Not a threat.
His hand didn't drift to his sickle like he thought he may have to; there was no need for that here. Harmless, and certainly not undead.
"Are you a long way from home too, traveler?" he asked, voice soft but raspy.
It was rude to stare at those different from oneself. Guinevere was well aware of this fact, as it had been taught to her in her many years of etiquette training and lessons in politics.
And yet her green eyes lingered on the person before her, taking in the sight of feathers and a beak where she was used to seeing skin. It wasn't that she'd never seen an aarakocra before, but they weren't common in her castle.
She averted her gaze out of respect and shifted her weight from side to side. "I am, yes," she said in response to his question, tucking a ginger curl behind her ear. "I'm... finding my way in the world."
That sounded a lot better than explaining that she'd run away from her kingdom and her responsibilities.

how long have you been sober?
i heard the first 90 days are the toughest.
i know it doesn't add up, but i get something from holding onto this.
we're going the wrong way!
oh please, [ NAME ], could you not patronize me?
hey, can you keep it down please?
you know i hate it when you don't take the things i say seriously.
come on sweetheart, i just had a rough day today.
you're drunk, what a surprise!
that's not it, it never is!
you've been saying that for years!
everything looks okay after ten beers.
i could use a little help.
that's a real low blow.
don't you know how tough this is for me?
at least one of us is having a good time.
reminds me of some creepy cult.
this is a valuable, rare, and sought-after collection.
i'd like to have a bath in peace.
the devil himself would struggle with you.
this place is crazy enough without your two cents.
what's all the noise about?
[ NAME ], help! what should i do?!
stop, it's too late!
i'm sure there's nothing to worry about.
there was nothing you could do.
what's happened has happened.
do you trust your head, or your heart?
my advice, for what it's worth, is... to thine own self be true.
i'm not supposed to interfere.
what do you want me to do, [ NAME ]?!
calm down, genius, i already tried making a call.
hey, [ NAME ], how are you doing?
i don't remember being in any crash.
you're probably in mild shock.
i'm fine, thanks for asking.
think of it as a character building exercise.
teamwork at its finest.
i've got no signal either, must be a dead spot.
– and we've already concluded this conversation.
no need for a vote, decision's been made.
we really don't have time to be arguing.
try to be civil, it costs nothing.
try sticking up for yourself sometime.
i'm not wasting another breath on you.
the last thing we need is you causing trouble.
you wanna come along and wait with me?
i still think the smart move is to stick together.
how'd we end up back here?
there's a rational explanation for what's happening.
i'm doing my best to understand this, just like you.
we're trapped in a nightmare.
we have to get outta here right fucking now.
this isn't helping us find help!
there's nowhere else we can go except into that damn town.
i'm not sure this is such a great idea.
we're really going to get into this now?
i need to know 100% that i can rely on you.
we standing here all night or are we going inside?
life moves on, but we don't all go with it.
there's a phone, but it's been dead for years.
anything you can do would be greatly appreciated.
i saw someone in the woods.
nobody would be out here at this ungodly hour.
okay, very good, i'm freaked. who's there?
[ NAME ]? where are you? this isn't funny!
what is your name, sir?
what treachery is this now, [ NAME ]?
[ NAME ], come back here!
how can you not have seen that?!
"stressed", my ass!
you got a better idea?
i'm just gonna say it ... this is exactly what goes down in horror movies.
what the hell do we do now?
i'll deal with this, you stay right here.
who are you? what are you doing here?
what the hell are you? what do you want?!
a black tongue full of riddles, i'll have none of it.
fix your gaze elsewhere!
i am very far from okay ... i'm terrified and confused.
you're blowing this out of proportion, [ NAME ].
fuck that, i'm going another way.
don't you watch horror movies? you never, ever split up.
those movies are dumb.
can we just take a breath and think about what our next move is?
it's not safe for you to be hanging out here on your own.
thanks for coming after me.
the hell are you doing with a gun?
what we don't need is to get someone killed.
make sure the damn thing stays in your pants.
that "terrifying creature" was, in, fact, a cat.
there must be a radio or a working phone inside.
gimme that, i'll smash the window.
if you're feeling under pressure, let someone else do it.
even if you make it, there's no way i'm following.
i might've made a bad call here.
woah, you can't be doing that!
tell me that didn't just happen.
get away or they'll find me!
let's not hang around here, it's time to go.
seriously? you're going in there?
i don't like the idea of being out here on my own.
i'll be as fast as i can, okay?
[ NAME ], the door won't open.
woah, hey, take it easy.
can you stop reacting to every setback like a child?
we'll find a way out of here. we have to.
i appreciate you checking in with me.
who would want land in this godforsaken town?
tell me that didn't just happen.
who would say such a thing?
you look freaked, what's up?
you saw something else, right?
we're really screwed up, here.
can you tell me what you're upset about?
what's going on with you?
i'm going to help you out here if i can, but i need to know your name.
you cannot talk of our secret.
we have an understanding, do we not?
what more proof is needed that the devil walks among us?
the devil is here in this very room.
what the hell was that shit? was that for real?
like i say, i have no good explanation.
when you first told me, i thought you were messing with me.
let's try to force the handle.
still think splitting up was the right move?
personally, i think we're in deep shit here.
maybe the answer lies down the one path we haven't taken yet.
this is fucking crazy, we have no clue what we're getting ourselves into.
[ NAME ], you need to see this.
we were never meant to make it out of here.
i can't see for shit.
you keep saying you're in charge, so... you first.
we can't stay here.
you ever have any family here?
it's already been a hell of a night, but i'm sure we'll pull through.
you don't know that it's safe.
let us pray in silence.
i've done no wrong!
i do not deserve death, i beg you!
who are you ? and how come you look just like [ NAME ]?
the devil is in the wind, seeking to help his own.
[ NAME ], let us conclude our business here swiftly.
[ LOCATION ] is already lost, shrouded in evil!
the devil takes many forms, you know that better than any!
while [ NAME ] still draws breath, [ LOCATION ] is beyond salvation.
i don't know how to tell you what i just saw.
give me a moment, will you? i've just gone through something pretty rough.
what the hell is that?!
don't leave me behind!
i'm coming back for you, [ NAME ]! hold on!
reach out and grab my hand!
that was really quite close.
not that there's anything particularly wrong with death.
that gun might prove to be a lifesaver. or the precise opposite.
this must be very confusing for you right now.
i dare say we'll find out, hmm?
what in the name of holy fuck was that?
it was like something from a nightmare, did you see how it looked?
whatever that thing was, it's gone now.
thank god we're okay.
you are going to tell me right now what happened.
let's ... stay away from that.
i'm all for putting as much distance between us and that hideous thing as possible.
can't a guy get some peace around here?
i don't think there is another way.
[ LOCATION ] isn't a place i want to revisit.
i'm taking this to protect you.
why can't you leave me alone?
it could be leading us into danger, even a trap!
stay close ... who knows what's up ahead.
what did they do to deserve that?
it's just you and me now.
"Anyone worth their salt would take the time to help a stranger in need," she said with a slight sniff.
Jalon was not generally a proud woman, but she did pride herself on her willingness to try and be compassionate and helpful. She liked to be useful, to help, to provide aid to those who needed it. At the end of the day, it genuinely made her happy to do something for others.
"Well, if you ever need someone to sneak you a piece of chocolate, I will be happy to provide." Lord knows that she'd love to have someone to be in cahoots with, or spoil a little. "Or a late night snack in the kitchens before stealing into the library for a few hours."
She was trying to lighten his mood a little, to offer him something that would maybe make him happy. She didn't know the boy very well, didn't know his interests. Would books catch his attention or was he more brawn than brains?
Not that any of Arthur's knights were dense; they were all skilled and intelligent in their own way, but she hadn't seen any of them with their noses in books yet...in their defense, she didn't see them much when they weren't training.
Maybe there was a book worm or two in there.
Anyone worth their salt didn't usually include queens or royalty. Queens were usually considered worth more than the people around them by virtue of blood or marriage, but Mordred didn't voice that opinion. Instead, he bit his tongue and kept his gaze on the ground.
Jalon's kindness perplexed him. Even the woman who raised him — Queen Morgause of Orkney — was kind, but not so kind as to extend her hand to total strangers. She had taken him in because he was her blood despite how he was conceived and he doubted she would have spared him a second glance had he not been Arthur's son. Yet Queen Jalon offered him a world of kindness despite having only just met him. It was confusing.
At the mention of the library, Mordred's head lifted. "You enjoy the library?" The words tumbled from his lips before he could stop them. He enjoyed reading, claimed that his brain needed sharpening as much as his sword, but he hadn't expected such a thing to be respected among knights.
He cleared his throat and averted his gaze once again. "I would appreciate any assistance you deem me worthy of, ma'am." He bowed slightly. "I find myself appreciative of a good book." He always had. He'd much rather busy himself with reading than fighting despite all that was expected of him and all he wished to accomplish.

Some moodboards for some potential muses: Galahad, Icarus, and Merlin
@skyfiresmuses asked:
"Are you certain a non-mage can't learn magic?" to whatever mage you wish from Guinevere
Vin was caught off-guard by the woman, their ears shifting as they looked up from patching and healing a recently-gained injury. They'd felt lucky enough that a local noble hadn't been immediately hostile to their party, but to also be allowed shelter? That felt like a miracle straight from the Maker.
No one so far, though, had been willing to approach them, either afraid of the Blight or afraid of their magic. At the question, they gave her a confused look, but finished closing their wound before answering.
"...I'm sorry my Lady," they replied softly, "But I'm fairly confident that's the case. Though anyone can study enchantments. And anyone can study magical theory. To draw from the Fade, though... that takes a mage."
A long, disappointed sigh escaped Guinevere's lips at the answer. It was exactly the answer she'd been expecting, but she was disappointed by it nonetheless.
"And you must be born a mage? There's no way to become one later in life?" She knew the answer to this too, as it had been taught in her studies that mages were born rather than made, but perhaps an actual mage would know secrets not taught to noblewomen in their studies. Perhaps there was a potion or a location or a spirit that could grant one the ability to perform magic.
She watched the elf closely, a slight smile on her face. "Sorry, I've been told I ask too many questions." Mostly by her sister. "It's just... well, I've never met a mage before."
She'd never met a mage and she had so many questions, her mind brimming with curiosity. There was so much she wanted to learn, so many questions she wanted to ask.
Sun was used to training alone, either in the early morning or in the late evenings. Times where people were unlikely to bother her or have her under a heavy gaze. It was better that way. Better than to have someone discover the scales hiding under her clothes.
She had not been in Camelot long but if this kingdom was like any other she had been to, she had doubts they would welcome a dragon — well, dragon cursed. Was there really any difference?
No. Not really.
But this young man at least seemed genuine in training with her. Sir Mordred as he had called himself. A knight. She wondered how long he had been a knight if he still stumbled over the title when introducing himself. It reminded her of when she had the opposite problem. When she would forget she no longer could introduce herself as the crown princess of a long dead kingdom.
"If you have no other duties that would keep you, then I would happily accept training with you." Sun rested her hand on the hilt of the sword on her hip. It was a simple blade, simply iron and steel, but it did the job. Kept her from having to use to claws, fangs, and fire.
Mordred had half-expected the woman to refuse his offer of training alongside her. A part of him was frustrated that he was giving up his alone time, but another part of him welcomed the company.
He was smaller than most of the other knights, who towered above him as giants among men, and they often taunted him for both that and his youthfulness. He was skilled with a blade when compared to the average man, but when compared to the other knights, he was less trained and weaker.
Perhaps this woman would not judge him so harshly. Perhaps she would not knock him to the ground and laugh, jeering at him with the others who were supposed to be their comrades.
Mordred's gaze went to Sun's sword — a fine blade, if a bit simple — and he raised his own. His sword was made by the finest blacksmith in the kingdom, as were all the swords used by the Knights of the Round Table. The king insisted on giving his men the best and only the best. Mordred hated it.
"Come, then." He prepared himself to be on the defensive. "Come at me."
