thinking about. maybe there's a day. after starcourt and maybe after spring break but before s5, where robin is hanging with steve like she tends to. and maybe they're at one of their jobs or maybe they're at steve's house or nancy's or wherever, and they're just kind of hanging out. shooting the shit. and steve is complaining. if they're at work maybe he's complaining about customers or shelving tapes and if they're not maybe he'd be complaining about the same things but also the damned kids that want rides or the upside down or whatever. he's complaining but it's good-natured and it's making robin laugh and chime in occasionally but mostly she's just listening to him complain.

and then, very quietly, she thinks, "man i want to keep living."

"I don't know, Munson. Are you even listening?" He throws his hands up. "I met her like, a week ago and then I had my lights punched out. I'm trying to bond with a - not a freak. She's not like you. She's actually like, a cool kid, you know?"

"No, I don't know," He says slowly. "And you apparently don't either because you know nothing about her."

Steve rolls his eyes at him, wracks his concussion of a brain for literally anything and, "...She likes Lucas."

"I. Don't. Know. Who. That. Is. Either!"

Thinking about how during the entirity of S5 Dustin's fear of losing Steve was the driving factor of their conflict yet it's Steve who says "You die I die" first and how it's so important for Dustin to know that Steve cares for him so much that Dustin dying is unthinkable for him as much as the opposite is for Dustin... Like Dustin had no idea how important he is and he tried to push Steve away thinking he'd be better off without Dustin only for Steve to talk about how much he misses Dustin and promise to go after him if he died. All of that was so important for Dustin to hear
