Unexpected // Izzy and Jamie
Jamie stared at Izzy for what felt like forever, as if he were trying to search and read her expression for the answer. He didn’t know what to do or what to say, he just knew that this was the reality of the situation now. They were expecting a child. What happened next was up to them. Regardless of what they chose to do, it was clearly a decision that would need to be given great thought and couldn’t be taken lightly by any means. This child was their future, regardless of whether they chose to be together or not. There were just so many thoughts racing through the officer’s head, he didn’t know what issue to address first.
On one hand, he wanted to remain angry at Izzy for all she had done, but this changed things. He had to do what was right for their unborn child, regardless of what differences he had with Izzy at the moment. His anger toward her didn’t change the fact that he loved her, but he didn’t want to use the child as an excuse to make things work. He knew things never ended well that way. No— if they were going to keep this child, they had to keep it for the right reasons. He just didn’t know if they would keep it for the right reasons.
"Look, I… I never pictured myself having a family anytime soon, but if we do decide to keep this child, I don’t want it to feel like we only kept it because we felt obligated to for one another or because we tried to make things work between us. If we keep this child, it has to be because we both want to raise this child together and… give things between us a shot.” He knew all of this was wishful thinking, and they had other options, but a part of him hoped she would agree with him. Maybe all of this was happening for a reason. The man who was so focused on salvaging what was left of his broken family was now going to have a family of his own? Surely that couldn’t be coincidental, could it?
Izzy stopped in rubbing her temples to look up at him, what he was offering. She looked at him, green eyes going over his features for any sign of this being some kind of joke.
She'd seen first hand what happened when a couple stayed together because they felt obligated to--the child suffered. Izzy didn't want that to happen. She might have done some bad things, might have even been a horrible person but that wasn't the child's fault--and it wasn't Jamie's fault either.
"Well," she started, raking a hand through her tangled hair. Izzy squeezed her eyes shut, her throat suddenly tight with emotion. He was saying this now, but would he if she told him? Could she tell him?
You have to tell him.
"I don't want it to feel like that either." she admitted. "I know that doesn't work--especially for the kid." she sighed and leaned back against the couch, mulling over his words.
"I just--don't know." Izzy said, holding her face in both hands. Could he forgive her for tricking him? Knowing what she'd done, could they make it work?
