starklings modern au. the eras tour is coming to westeros. sansa stark needs to see taylor swift perform "love story" in person or she'll die (that's what she tells ned). the money is no issue the starks can obviously afford the vip tickets for sansa. and jeyne. ("i CAN'T see taylor swift without jeyne, dad! i can't sing along to the songs alone, that's embarrassing!" "won't there be hundreds of people there?" "but jeyne is different! she's my best friend in the whole world, dad! we already made matching bracelets with the lyrics, see?"). the real issue is who is going to chaperon. robb is the obvious answer (eldest sibling curse), but he has the college entrance exams in like a month and he's kind of losing his mind, so we have to count him out. the next option is jon who is not taking the college entrance exams this year because he thought taking a sabbatical working at the former-penal-colony-now-reformed-museum that the stark family owns at the edge of the world was a good idea. jon is an emo teenager that hates taylor swift but he agrees to chaperon if his friend sam from the former-penal-colony-now-reformed-museum who actually likes taylor swift can come. so. four tickets. perfectly affordable for the starks. ned is happy. catelyn is not. she doesn't think jon is responsible enough. she needs another trusted young adult. that's when theon walks through the door. he doesn't live there but he's always in their house for some reason. coming out of nowhere with the smile of an asshole to ruin ned's morning coffee by saying: "you can't trust snow to watch the girls if his gay ass boyfriend is there to distract him." "sam is NOT gay, asshole" says jon with loyalty. nobody believes him. "all men who like taylor swift are gay" theon pronounces gay like a slur because catelyn is present and he can't say a slur for real. "but don't worry, mrs stark, i can watch the kids" he winks and catelyn considers blowing up the whole house. "you only want to go because you like taylor swift too" says arya from under the table where she's carving the wood with a kitchen knife. she knows sansa forced theon to listen to the reputation album till he admitted he liked it. "i do not!" says theon, who does likes taylor swift but also tries to go through life with the attitude of an homophobic red pilled alpha male who is NOT gay. "sam is not my boyfriend! we are not gay!" says jon again, suddenly and unnecessarily. nobody believes him. in the end, catelyn turns to the only young adult she can fully trust. and that's how sansa, jeyne, jon, sam, theon and brienne end up going to the eras tour.

Love how Alys’s final boss play in How To Win & Influence Aemond Targaryen was to present him a crate full of fertility/procreation symbols (that are also tied directly to his biological lineage)—along with her proposal. It’s some delicious Freudian icing on the cake of how she initially indulged and is now transferring his Maternal/Oedipal yearnings into something else, something more…productive. Evolving their dynamic from the previous episode, Caretaker/Mother & Hurt Child, into Mother & Father. Basically telling him that the way to finally move on from the Hurt Child is to become the Strong Father. Like she’s moving him through Jungian life archetypes. 

And it makes all the sense that she’d start on that phase after Aemond, at the end of their previous episode’s arc, proved his motivation and ability to protect. “It’s been long since anyone sought to defend me” (3x06). Parents are protectors, and Fathers especially are protectors of the whole (archetypal) family, of Mother and Child(ren). And it seems like Aemond was already starting to subconsciously pick up what she was about to put down. “All I put my hand to withers beneath its touch” (3x06). As he tenderly yet tentatively holds one of the fertility symbols—the opposite of destruction, creation. And Alys rests it all on an emotional foundation of, Why not merge our respective loneliness into a power couple and a shared family? And finally, overlapping their kiss, a bloodied and warming dragon egg grasped between them, the transition into the next scene begins with the sound of a crying baby.

"Alicent's harrenhal plot is pointless" well EYE am developing new neural connections at light speed seeing Aemond fantasize about his mother apologizing for his childhood AND responding by offering her absolution and comfort, genuinely distraught by her pain. The little boy in him wants her to take accountability so bad but that same little boy also wants to protect her from everything bad in the world because there is no stronger force in the universe than a child's loyalty to their parent. Except ☝🏻 for that child's secret dream of a better parent. And tbh it pisses me off to just handwave it away as "Freudian mommy issues" as IF Freudian mommy issues are not the crux of human suffering like what exactly does that even mean. The pain of a neglected or exploited child? The eroticism of connecting with your deepest wounds? The psychic toil of trying to remain functional in spite of it all? Living your life in servitude to the unmet needs of your child self? Aemond paid women to cradle him to their chest and rock him like a baby. #TeamAemond for real what did he do wrong except everything the parentification relay race WILL have its due TODAY. on house of the dragon s3e7
