EMMA’S (ALMOST - it’s in the same month, so close enough) ANNIVERSARY

(insert sappy shit here: so many of you, y’all make me feel so welcome, blah blah blah.)

but, seriously! i don’t have too much to preface it with because i’ve said it all below, but this is basically just a big thank you to everyone who’s made this past year here enjoyable. i’m finally starting to find my groove again with writing here, and it’s all thanks to you guys: so honestly, thank each and every one you so much for being here!

there are many people i’ve written with and like that aren’t listed here – please don’t be sad if you’re not! i appreciate anyone who’s spent any time at all with me, but this is a shout-out to the ones i feel especially welcomed by.

He was surprised to hear a semi-straightforward answer from the Slayer, much less the suggestion that he go rummaging through the kitchen drawers to find Joyce’s alcohol stash. “Don’t mind if I do then,” he smirked, rising from the sofa and swaggering into the kitchen. His nose led him to the fruity brandy almost at once, the tones of green apples and cherries. Acquiring the bottle and not bothering with a glass, he returned to the living room and removed the lid. “It’s liquor. You’ll hear no complaints from this vamp, luv.”

    Perhaps he would have been met with more resistance, a bit of wit, if he had held her focus; however, the television set had stolen it. In fact, she’d been engrossed in her show for upwards of three hours. It was a luxury that the slayer, unfortunately, wasn’t awarded. Maybe that’s the excuse she’d hand out if anyone asked why she was sitting in her living room with a soon-to-be intoxicated Spike. Although it was something she’d most vehemently deny, she wasn’t have the worst time.

    She snorted in response, a soft chuckle escaping like a breath. “I’ve seen you drink pig’s blood from a -- what did you call it? --  novelty mug. Anything has to be better than that.” Forest orbs flickered his way, a sculpted brow raising. “No glasses? How gentlemanly of you.”

9. What about political beliefs?        ( withpryde )

Buffy doesn’t know too much about politics. While her intelligence is often underestimated despite it being actual canon that she’s a pretty smart girl, she just doesn’t always get politics and doesn’t care all too much about it. However, even though she doesn’t really classify herself or take the time to engage in political debates (which Willow would definitely be up for), I think that her experiences with the Watcher’s Council as well as her moral beliefs would make her fall into the realm of libertarianism:

“Libertarianism...  is a collection of political philosophies that uphold liberty. Libertarians seek to maximize autonomy and freedom of choice, emphasizing political freedom, voluntary association, and the primacy of individual judgment. Libertarianism has been applied as an umbrella term to a wide range of political ideas through modern history.

Libertarians generally share a skepticism of authority; however, they diverge on the scope of their opposition to existing political and economic systems....”

However, I don’t think Buffy could always have been classified as a liberal. I have a lot of headcanons regarding the way Buffy was raised prior to her parent’s divorce, with one of those headcanons being that Hank was a huuuge conservative. And at that point in time, Buffy just went with it. She was still a kid and took her parent’s words at face value for a long time, and didn’t feel the need to comment on his beliefs. It worked out in her favor most of the time, anyways. Hank was a conservative, but he was pretty liberal with her allowance.

Becoming a slayer changed Buffy’s life, not only in big obvious ways, but subtle ways too. The more she learned about the world she lived in, the more confusing everything became. She began to see the world less and less in a black and white scheme, until everything was gray. The gray also hinders her from being on one side or the other politically, but she certainly believes in the freedom of choice. She believes a person always has and should have a choice, and that it’s up to them to make the right one.
