Thinking about Pusher. Thinking about how Mulder pulling the trigger on himself would’ve ended his suffering instantly. Thinking about how Mulder pulling the trigger on Scully was literally unthinkable.

Modell pushed thoughts onto people. He had to make them picture what was going to happen in order for his victims to act upon it.

Shooting Scully was literally inconceivable to Mulder. And so Modell couldn’t make him shoot her.

baran is the strongest character we’ve seen in this show hands down, in my opinion

in the present, she’s managing emotional stress from cutting into children and comforting crying families. she’s managing seizures and the additional physical and mental toll that takes.

she’s managing a coworker who she’s smart enough to realize has internalized issues that he’s taking out on her, and she manages to placate him; make him feel seen by showing him her chart so he knows the ED is in good hands, and saying she respects him. she can do that while still standing up for herself, her students, and her patients.

she’s a mother taking on a very taxing new position where multiple staff members don’t trust her or even want her there.

in the past, she developed a devastating infection and from it lifelong symptoms: recurrent seizures which are likely still somewhat of a mystery to her as they are for many people with neurological disorders. she suffered trauma helping hopeful refugees and injured civilians in the middle of a war (many of which were pregnant women).

and she’s still somehow not only a functioning adult, but a beautiful human being with a happy child, a chief attending position, and the most patient and compassionate personality i’ve ever seen on tv

Pilot Mulder is so angry, so reactive and suspicious of everyone's motives. He's like a gentle-natured dog that's been beaten a few too many times, who thinks if he barks enough he can ward off any future pain that might come his way. He doesn't like it though, it's contrary to his nature, and so it's beautiful how quickly he softens towards Scully simply because she listens, she doesn't dismiss him right away. But what I think is key to their relationship is the fact that she doesn't back down when he snaps at her, when he accuses her of being a plant. She turns it back on him, she stands up for herself. It's glorious.

I NEED to point out that in both EP2 and EP3 Langdon hands off his cases to Mel (priapism and the racing family) explicitly, as she is the primary on both.

Even if he’s stuck on triage island, he’s still finding ways to work with her.
