DIY homemade remedies & beauty products using essential oils-     I don’t claim nor believe that these are miracle cures, but I like using them as a supplement and aid for common ailments. They are also nice to have on hand for homemade beauty products. My favorite way to use them is with a scent diffuser or in a bath, but here are some other ways to utilize them;
Acne Spot Treatment w/Tea Tree Oil- mix some honey,avocado oil and a few drops of tea tree oil together then use a cotton pad to apply to pimples. Tea tree is antimicrobial & helps disinfect & dry out acne spots.
Deodorant w/Lemongrass Oil- melt 2 tbsp coconut oil & 1 tbsp cocoa butter over low heat. Take off heat then whisk in 2 tbsp baking soda, 2 tbsp arrowroot & drops of lemongrass oil. Let it cool then transfer to a glass container. Apply using fingers or cotton pads. Lemongrass acts as an astringent. It limits oil secretions to prevent excessive sweating & odor. The smell is nice and fresh too.Â
Air Freshener w/Sweet Orange Oil- place water, cinnamon sticks, cloves, lemon slices and drops of orange oil into a mason jar. Store in the fridge until ready to use. When ready, pour the mix into a pot on the stove. Bring to a boil then simmer and the scent will permeate the room. You can reuse the mix 2-3 times. Just when finished, pour back into the jar and store in the fridge. Orange oil is a soothing and mood boosting scent.
Brown Sugar Face Scrub w/Lavender Oil- mix brown sugar w/a few drops of lavender and some avocado oil. Apply to your face and let it sit for 10 minutes. After, gently scrub it into your face and exfoliate, then wash off with warm water. Lavender is a relaxing scent so this face scrub is nice right before bed. It also anti-septic which is good for the skin.
Cold Relief w/Eucalyptus Oil- combine 2 tbsp of coconut oil, 2 tbsp avocado oil and a few drops of eucalyptus oil. Rub mixture over chest to help with a cold. You can also apply a small amount of the mix to a hot face towel and press onto face repeatedly(avoid eyes), inhaling the scent. Or add some of the oil to a bowl of hot water and put a towel over your head to inhale the steam & scent. Eucalyptus is anti-bacterial & anti-inflammatory. It helps clear your sinuses and congestion so it’s perfect for a cold.
Headache Relief w/Peppermint Oil- mix avocado oil with a few drops of peppermint oil and rub into the areas where your head hurts. Apply using a cotton swap. Peppermint oil instantly has a cooling menthol feeling on your head.Â
* these oils should not be eaten or used near the eyes. if you have serious skin conditions avoid using these on the skin as they may irritate it further. pregnant,breastfeeding women & small children should not use these oils topically. please read here for further safety precautions.Â
