I was always interested in psychology since I was a pre-teen. I was the sorta person to bring a DSM-5 to my class trips to read, its the most long lasting fixation of mine and I recently realized it’s because I compulsively have to make sure I correctly understand and react to everyone around me. I love Dan Cain so much. He works in hospitals but can’t stand blood or death, is a total pushover, and I would argue is just as much of a weirdo as Herbert is. There are so many points where he could have removed himself from the freaky ass situations he was in but doesn’t. He’s terribly unprofessional with his patients and is still trying to be a whore despite the weird shit he’s got going on in his basement with Herbert? He’s a total mess

Had to unfollow a blog who claimed that they're against Gay couples and pairings on TV cause Hetero ships are just much more interesting and how Queer ships are overrepresented ect. It's so funny how obviously Herbert shifts the narrative to get Dan to go along with something. There's no way he actually sees that much significance in "a young Ballerinas feet who had potential" or "the womb of a virgin who didn't get to taste the pleasures of life" ect ect but he does formulate these deeply symbolic words and meanings and lays them out for Dan like he's luring a dog with treats ASDFGH

I think it’s really interesting because so much of what we see of him interacting with others is pretty devoid of empathy- except for Dan!

With Dan, he shows a clear capability for empathy: saying he knows Dan was fond of Rufus, comforting Dan after he collapses in the morgue, acquiring Meg’s heart, tailoring the other parts of the bride to be an “ideal,” attractive woman, including the head of a patient Dan was particularly invested in…

Even if it’s him being manipulative, I really don’t think it matters. Because why is he manipulating Dan? To what end? Hebert manipulates Dan into doing what he wants (helping in the Work, staying in his life), because He Wants Dan- not just an assistant. He wants Dan, specifically.

When people say, “he doesn’t necessarily love or want Dan, he’s just manipulating him” I don’t think this distinction really exists.

Exactly, like he shows so much emotion when it comes to Dan. Pettiness, worry, and some amount of care.

I think the reason why he cares and why he puts in effort for Dan to speak his language, express the meaning behind it all ect, is because Dan actually sees the potential behind his work. They share a vision that not many shared or supported besides Dr. Gruber and that is special to Herbert. But he understands that while Dan may share his vision, his motives and his way of seeing it is through a humanistic lens. So he adapts to that, because he doesn't want Dan to end up giving up on their shared goal. If he drops out he lacks an important accomplice, and to some extent, tool. But that doesn't negate that if he drops out, Herbert would be all alone with his dream and his ambition again. He would loose another of the very few people shown capable of understanding and believing him.

I got assessed (and diagnosed) for ADD and during those 4 hours we also explored the possibility of Autism. But he said that those symptoms may possibly be caused by my Anxiety disorder and or my Trauma, but NOW, I am also encountering posts here that talk about similar symptoms being part of their OCD

I just started watching the X-Files for the first time, and I love how despite the fact that both Scully and Mulder have something detached to their personalities, they seem to be so surprisingly comfortable to be physically close to each other

I think all of it is probably a set up for a Romance later in the show but I also just really like the thought of them being like, platonic soulmates and just being really comfortable with each other in a way neither can or will express verbally
