ROUND 1 — Match 220 of 276
Armand (Interview with the Vampire)
Problematic because: "Brainwashed his boyfriend into believing that he didn't orchestrate the death of said boyfriend's daughter. Also tortured a man for, I believe, 3 days" "He's a vampire with no qualms about murdering people for food." "Mr falsehoods and lies himself. Armanipulator. Takes away people’s memories and betrays everyone if it means at least one side keeps him." "he tried to have two of the main characters killed, succeeded with one of them, then lied about it to the one who survived and pretended he saved him" Propaganda: 1. "GORGEOUS LOOKING MAN also he's got a sad backstory and I think that's reason enough to forgive all of his crimes" 2. "His backstory is horrible and sympathetic and does a lot to explain why he is the way he is; he is often 'kind' about his killings in that he makes an effort to lull his victims into a state wanting death (where most other vamps in-universe thrive on the victims' terror); he is genuinely just a fucked-up little dude who desperately wants to be loved for who he is but barely knows how to be himself in pursuit of that goal, spends most of his (very long) life playing into roles that others demand of him and shaping himself to their wants." 3. "Hes so complicated and you can see the gears turning in his head to make sure he’s never left alone since he doesn’t believe he can exist without making his entire world a person or group of people. His desperation to not be alone is so interesting and seeing how far he goes to make this not happen is so good." 4. "he's a level of crazy u rly need in a series like iwtv. like they're all crazy but he's such a specific kind of crazy desperate lonely control freak with inhuman strength and mind-control powers. he did all that shit and i know he'd do it again in a heartbeat i can always rely on him to make the situation Worse🧡"
vs. Catra (She-Ra and the Princesses of Power)
Problematic because: "Tries to destroy the world because she's mad at her ex-friend. Is constantly trying to hurt/kill people. Is in a fascist army." Propaganda: "She's a silly traumatized cat person. She's irrational and obsessive and selfish and just wants to be loved"
Who should advance?
Armand
Catra

Imagine if people watched Interview with the Vampire and it inspired them to think about how the past is in a very real way inaccessible to us and memory can be misleading even when you're not being dishonest and different people can have different experiences of the same event that feel emotionally true and are very real to the people who experienced them even if they contradict each other and often you will never be able to know what really happened and how this can make repairing damaged relationships difficult and threatening to a person's sense of self

Never been about me
"-suddenly everyone around me disappears like the rapture's come... And I... You know.... I feel him."
It’s never loustatover
see the thing about iwtv is that i will always believe louis no matter what unless claudia says something different. then i believe claudia. lestat could tell me that it's raining during a thunderstorm and id need a peer review.
obsessed and deranged
i love you uhhhh *reads smudged writing on my hand* Almond.
Every rewatch I fall in love with how extremely empathetic Louis is. It’s one of, if not his most defining character trait.
Like. He KNOWS people. He’s able to see them and uncover their foundations. When provoked or feeling the need to lash out, his insults can feel especially painful because he knows exactly what to say to hurt that person. He knows to weaponize Lestat’s fear of abandonment. He knows to pick apart and pry into “Alice” to get Daniel to relive her rejection. He knows to call Claudia a burden, turning one of her deepest hidden anxieties against her.
But he also knows exactly what to say to comfort. He knows to console Daniel, who is desperate for identity, by giving him one of success and longevity. He knows to uplift Claudia, who is desperate for companionship, by reassuring her that regardless of past and future hardships, he can at least ensure she will never be alone. He knows the kind of dynamic and which identity will bring Armand, who despises his own power and authority and lost sense of self, the most calm and feel the most secure.
Empathy doesn’t inherently mean kindness or cruelty. It’s simply the ability to place yourself in other people’s shoes and see things from their perspective. To be able to understand how they receive the world and how they may respond to it.
How Louis uses the information he gains varies on many factors, like his own mental state, the circumstances involved, etc., but regardless he is able to see into people and he does it masterfully.
This isn’t to say he gets it right every time. His own insecurities, desires, and a lack of necessary (sometimes purposely falsified) information can discolor his interpretations. But goddamn if he doesn’t more often than not come close, if not hit right on target.
Which is also why he suffocates so much under others’ expectations. He knows what they think of him. Even if their words say differently, he can tell by their actions, by their emotions, simply by observing them, what it is they truly want from him.
So his extremely high level of empathy can be a double edged sword just as much as it can bring mutual comfort. He can tell when he is loved, but he can also tell when he is despised. He can garner exactly what others desire most, while also knowing exactly what they fear most. And he chooses when to use this insight to provide support or to cause harm, whether it’s to others or towards himself.
He’s incredibly empathetic and watching the constantly shifting, elaborate ways he utilizes that feels like pure artistry.
