THOUGHT GAINED: INFERNAL ENGINES
PROBLEM
The world is ending. You know it, your neighbor knows it, the dealer knows it, the jailer knows it, the king and all his men know it. All one has to do is look around to see it— the future is curdling into something pale and incorporeal. The infernal machine that is this stupid world is going to blow, sooner rather than later. So what are you doing? Why are you still here? Why is anyone still here?
SOLUTION
You are doing the only thing worth doing. You are living. *Why,* you ask? Try and remember now. Remember your mother’s hand on your shoulder. Remember the taste of a fresh catch. Remember the times when you were kind to the dogs in the valley and they did not bare their teeth. Remember the weight of a child on your shoulders. Remember the stars throwing their light against the wall of sodium and smog. Remember singing until your throat was raw. Remember crying just as loudly and publicly, and the gentleness with which someone opened your curled fist and pressed a handkerchief into your palm. Crying, laughing, running, eating, screaming, haunting, loving, fighting, fighting, fighting. The fight fuels you, and you fuel the fight. You run yourself ragged just for a chance to keep running. You never stop. You cannot stop. The world depends on it. *You* are the infernal engine. You are the world. And, simply put: you want to live.
I feel confident enough to post these now. A collection of all the existing posters after some edits from the other post that got 13k notes! These are full size/quality. Go nuts.
You may use them for wallpapers, tabletop campaigns, whatever. Consider tipping me or buying a print or sticker on ko-fi here! If you do use them, let me know what for, or send pictures!
Dealing With It
Don't take the final panels as some sweeping statement about how I think of or address my past self. I'll still call young me a guy sometimes, especially when it's funny. But when I think about how I dealt with my feelings, how long I kept everything I felt about my body and identity pushed down out of fear or denial, I try to be kind and think of the one doing that as a scared and confused girl who had so many things working against her, from inside and outside of herself.
I've tried to tackle this particular comic idea a few times now, from different angles and such. Even drew a couple that ended up being cut, rewritten, rearranged, or redrawn into this one, but I kept feeling like I didn't have it right. I think this is pretty close.

Infinite Stairs and Dissected Buildings | Marcin Bialas | Socks Studio
Marcin Bialas is a Polish artist who’s specialized in etchings and drawings in black an white. Among his large production, a recurring theme is dissected buildings and surreal constructions, such as infinite staircases and labyrinthine interiors, an atemporal combination of G.B. Piranesi and Brodsky/Utkin prints. The structures seem unfinished, yet already in ruin, able to plunge the viewer into an uncomfortable feeling. Somewhere between nightmares and theatrical settings, Marcin Bialas’ retro drawings explore the dramatic potential of different projections and points of view.
Hey PL, have some inspo for LOMAM.
im crying why do i always draw shit that’s too wide to be viewed properly on tumblr i just want to live my life in cinematic 2:1 ratio fuck
anyways this was part of an idea for a bigger thing that i 100% won’t ever finish. it was a lot more sad than this drawing communicates. and had time travel hope magic + punching coffeeshop au-esque tropes in the face.
