Do you think Albus visited Gellert in prison? And do you have any Grindeldore headcanons?

I think albus wanted to visit gellert every day, even until his last, but he convinced himself that if he ever went through with it, he’d end up breaking his ex lover out of prison instead of just having a chat.

So he never went.

In his last moments though, I think albus regretted that decision more than anything, especially after Voldemort killed gellert. Albus could have known that Gellert felt remorse for his past if they had communicated, but his true, genuine affection for Albus was only revealed when Voldemort killed him.

I can’t think of many Headcanons off the top of my head right now, but I will be compiling a list for the future :) thank you anon!

Trm Riddle Sr. is spoiled. It was in the first chapter of the fourth book that he was worse than the parents of the elderly Riddles... Tom, by the way, never mentions them eldery riddles

i looked through the first chapter and this is what they say:

'Nobody wasted their breath pretending to feel very sad about the Riddles, for they had been most unpopular. Elderly Mr. and Mrs. Riddle had been rich, snobbish, and rude, and their grown-up son, Tom, had been, if anything, worse.' ('The Riddle House', Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, pp. 3.)

i truly think by 'worse' they mean his attitude towards people was bad and not that he was more snobbish and rude than his parents (i mean they raised him, he got it from them!! can't outdo the doers), and i think that was mostly after his return from the year(?) away with merope that he got worse, he probably did not talk to people (which is considered very rude) and ignored them, his behaviour was probably inexplicable to them, esp if they didn't believe his claims of magic being used on him. i'm very sure he was spoiled of course, i do not deny that at all bc he's literally a rich white boy who's an only child, but from the actual snippet we get of him in the hbp he's not bad !

Speaking of Tom's adoptive parents, what kind of parent do you think best suits him? I personally can't see him with someone too authoritative. I think he'll grow to detest the control this adult imposes on his life. I also think it's best if he had a magical parent, someone strong and important enough to reel him back when he gets too "self-involved".

i actually had a discussion with my friend about the type of mother tom deserves and the conclusion was he needs a caribbean mother (specifically hers) 😭 he needs someone who would love him unconditionally of course, but also someone that would beat his ass for lying and thieving in her face i'm sorry like that boy is a problem for realll, give him an ethnic mother and he'd get his shit together with quickness bc he's not about to play in her face amen

that being said and on a more serious note ! i do believe he needs a loving but also strict parental figure in his life, you teach children moral codes that they take more seriously when they're older and i don't believe tom is the kind of child who'd be best dealt with by gentle parenting unfortunately, he would take advantage of that... but i suppose it does depend on when exactly he gets adopted, the earlier the better of course, he deserves to be taken care of by people that want him, cherish him, and adore him but who will also be able to see through his 'manipulation' and teach him better. babies and children are just that way, if they cry or 'throw a tantrum' they're more likely to be heard and babied and they will get away with bad behaviour, they need to be taught consequences but in the right way. i kind of do believe tom would react best to having a mother funnily enough, idk what it is but a man with daddy issues is boring and easy, a man with mommy issues on the other hand?... that's a man to watch out.

i also think tom having a non-magical parent might be better for him but of course it depends on the circumstances, every scenario is going to be different and it is all depending on certain variables.

Merope would have been a bad mother and she could have beaten Tom, like Marvolo did to her, and Tom would have grown up like the Muggle father who abandoned Merope.

i agree, there is no way in which merope could have been a good mother to tom. the abuse she underwent as a child to young adult is so grand, she has no idea what proper parenting looks like and what a mother should be like with a son. i don't know if she would beat tom per se (even though it isn't uncommon to see victims perpetuate their abusers), but i don't think it would be something merope could find it in her to do? i don't know maybe she might.

on another note, i truly think that had she raised tom there would be very concerning incestuous tones that would be appearing the older tom grew. the gaunts appear to be very open to incest and a popular theory in the fandom is that merope would have been forced to be with morfin (esp considering they seemingly interacted with no one else from the wizarding world and they couldn't guarantee they weren't tainted with muggle blood). now imagine how an abandoned and grieving 'not right in the head' mother who was very obsessed with a man that looks like the carbon copy of her son would act with this son?... i think she'd funnel that obsession onto her son even if she doesn't mean to, she might not act on it (though i do genuinely think she'd be very weird with him) but their relationship would not be healthy at all. it would be better for tom to be adopted and raised by another person willing to be a parent than to be subjected to his mother.

sometimes i wonder if the hp author actually intended to have tom riddle grow up during the 1930s depression/ww2. because if we go by that timeline, idk how are we supposed to say that harry and tom riddle grew up in almost the same circumstances when it feels like tom was doomed by the narrative on the get go. (my main sadness for harry though is he grew up unloved and abused by his so-called family, which is also another level of fucked up.) tbh i find more differences between their lives than similarities, it was only tom who forced the similarities onto harry due to the prophecy.

honestly, it does feel like she didn't put too much thought into tom's backstory only for the fact that if we do take in the entire context of his situation all it does is invoke sympathy for the boy. it felt like she randomly picked a time period which could have him get away with a lot of things whilst also being in the same millennium to not be super out of touch? also, she was probably going for the whole eerie orphanage vibe that ensures tom is viewed as a creepy kid or at least that was the impression i got.

but it's also super weird because iirc harry has stated previously that he would not have wanted to endure the same circumstances tom had endured (like i'm pretty sure harry said he'd take living with the dursleys over living in the orphanage?), i don't think they were intended to be shown as having lived the same circumstances at all tbh, they have some similarities but it's not intended to go deeper than "we're both orphans, we're both halfbloods, we even look somewhat alike" because how does a boy whose parents died protecting him compare to a boy who's mother died after childbirth due to being severely depressed and his father being killed by said boy who loathes a father that he feels did not want him for who he was instead of knowing that he was a father who never intended to be one and had his autonomy stripped away from him? like it feels like such an unfair comparison imo, if i was harry i'd be mad bc i would lose the pity-lympics bad : (

(also i like to think of it this way; if you had the ability to give lily and james the knowledge of one minute before their death, would they be able to avoid it? the answer is yes, whereas if you gave merope and tom sr the same knowledge, they wouldn't be able to do anything because 1. merope did not have the will to live on (which is why she would go to a muggle orphanage out of all the places in london). 2. tom sr wouldn't be able to do much against tom jr who had a wand and all the rage and sadness of an 'abandoned' son. so yeah, if lily and james lived, harry's life would be so different but if merope and tom sr lived [which mind you, tom sr. lived till tom was 16/17] tom's life would have still be terrible).

i think she'd have the worst case of cognitive dissonance and denial ever because what do you mean the man she worships and adores has been lying to her face all these years and preaching hatred for the very thing he is? there's no way that her lord is a hypocrite ! but then again, it certainly does explain the many fallacies that surround him... she would be undergoing the craziest conflict of logic vs. feelings and it might wreck her because on the one hand he gave her grief for her sister but on the other hand she has devoted her life to him, she's killed for him, tortured for him, tainted herself for him. there would definitely be feelings of resentment mingling with her adoration and i think it would be something that would gnaw at her no matter how hard she tries to ignore it. she can't accept that he's the son of a mudblood. she can't accept that his upbringing is so different from hers. she can't accept that she's been loving a man who represents a part of society she deems unworthy. also, i think her love isn't as simple as loving him only as a man, it's definitely influenced by his position of power, i don't think she'd be as interested in him if he wasn't who he was and top of the food chain.

i agree, dumbledore did act stupidly when it came to tom. disciplining a child you meet for the first time is such an interesting way to start off a teacher x student relationship... had dumbledore done this to a student who wasn't even officially enrolled in his school he'd be facing backlash himself. to not give the child the benefit of the doubt and to immediately categorise him as a problem is just the wrong way to go about it.
