Back in August 2011, when I first started this blog, I promised myself in a half joking manner that I would stop making gifs after I posted the set of the Cubs winning the World Series. While I abruptly stopped long, long ago, well before the Cubs actually won it all (I'd prefer to use the excuse of the heartbreak of the 2015 NLCS being too much, but the reality is I got lazy and other people put up gifs faster and far better in quality than mine), I figured I should make good on that promise.
I made this blog seven years ago since I found there was a contingent of Cubs fans on Tumblr but very few made gifs, and none on a regular basis (Shoutout to metsgifs, whom I personally don't know but whose blog inspired me to start this one). Since then it's been a journey and honestly looking back at the 100+ gifs and gifsets I've made, it's been fun to look back at where the Cubs were when Tumblr only supported 500kb gifs and where they are now. Like, remember when Darwin Barney won a Gold Glove? Or when Welington Castillo got hit in the family jewels on Opening Day? The Jeff Samardzija trade? Jake Arrieta nearly throwing three no-hitters in 2014? Baez hitting his first home run against the Rockies? Bryant hitting his first one out after 92 PAs? So many things have changed.
I stopped going on Tumblr a long while ago and I don't really have any intention of going back. But I felt bad for abruptly leaving a blog that I spent a lot of time and energy on, without any closure on the team's journey from the waning days of the Hendry era, the Rebuild, to World Champions. So here it is.
And to all the fine Cubs folk that I met here in 2011 that have since left, I miss y'all dearly.
