Snippet of a Thiam fic I’m working on.

Theo’s mouth tilted. “If I wanted you on a leash, you’d already be choking on it.”
But fast enough that it should’ve been a fight.
Theo, however, didn’t fight back. He stepped into it. Close enough that Liam’s senses stuttered, overwhelmed by scent, heat, the steady cadence of Theo’s heartbeat. Too close. Too grounding.
“Hit me,” Theo said softly. Eyes tracking every slight shift of Liams expression. “If it’ll help. But listen first.”
“Don’t talk about me like I’m dangerous,” Liam mutters, chest heaving. Something painful and raw in his eyes.
Theo sighs, “I’m talking about you like you’re powerful.”
“You’re powerful because you’re strong and you care,” he says. “Because you still pull back. Because you feel guilty when you lose control.”
His breathing was rough, uneven but it slowed. The static under his skin dulled. His claws hesitated, then retracted with a shuddering exhale.
Theo noticed. Of course he did.
He softened his voice. “You’re not wrong for feeling things,” he said. “You’re just bad at turning the volume down. Let me help you do that just for now.”
Liam swallowed. His shoulders dropped an inch. The anger didn’t vanish…but it settled, coiled tight instead of detonating.
Liam’s fist connected with Theo’s nose.
Theo staggered back with a sharp groan, hand flying up instinctively.
“—Seriously?!” he gasped. “My nose again?”
Liam stood there, breathing hard, eyes clear.
“Had to,” he muttered. “Didn’t want to prove you wrong. I do feel better.”
Theo blinked at him. Then, despite the blood he huffed a laugh.
