ok so, company laptop leaves the office, and suddenly "online" and "actually working" stop being the same thing.
a laptop showing activity 9 to 6 every day tells you nothing about whether that time went to real work, long idle gaps, or just... browsing. and a VPN connection just means someone logged in. that's it. that's all it tells you.
the actual review order that holds up:
apps/websites used, then work hours & idle time, then file/USB/software changes, then screenshots (last resort, not a daily thing)
most people should stop at the first two for routine checks. screen recordings are for when something's already flagged, not something you casually scroll through.
biggest mix-up: treating sign-in logs as "monitoring." they're not the same thing. a sign-in confirms someone connected, not what they did after.
