Buy new clothes? For what? I’ve been wearing the same torn up shit for years. It doesn’t matter. Buy a new car? For what? This one works. My family fits in it. It doesn’t matter. Upgrade the house? For what? These four walls and this roof keep us warm and dry.

Every time I see some article that’s like “this young celebrity just admitted to *insert frivolous cosmetic surgery/injection here* and she says she’s not ashamed!” That is someone I could never respect. Never.

And they had the audacity to laughingly say, "we can't joke like this," and "sometimes humor helps us move through things." Move through what?? Someone else's trauma that you just joked about?

Kimmy Robertson’s letter wasn’t just singing Brian Peck’s praises. The way she actively shat on Drake Bell’s character…a fucking 15 year old boy… “an overtly gay oversexed person with no idea what he is doing to Brian.”

She is hateful. Her letter was vicious and vile and she should never work again.

I read a few of those letters. I’m reading them slowly, taking time to digest them.

I’m willing to give Will and Rider the benefit of the doubt. I really believe they were blinded by their friendship and manipulated. I believe they feel remorseful. I believe they likely worried that bringing up someone’s deepest trauma to apologize for their role in it might be triggering. Maybe they felt like dropping it is safer than figuring out how to contact the guy. And I believe not mentioning him by name on the podcast was out of respect for his privacy: this is his story to tell and if he was mentioned by name on Pod Meets World, people would jump down Will and Rider’s throats for hijacking his story before the world got a chance to see the doc.

With that being said: The inaction for all these years was wrong. Especially for Will, working with Drake in voiceover for a while. He could have reached out to make amends.

This is a huge lesson to us all. You can use your discernment more carefully. You can vow to support victims next time. You can decide deep in your heart you know what you did was wrong and feel true regret and sorrow.

But you HAVE TO pick up your mess behind you before you move onto a better path.

Unfortunately, they waited until a documentary was coming out about a twisted thing their names were negatively attached to to make a public statement about how they’re feeling about it. And Drake is not wrong to say “that really doesn’t make me feel better. You may have been remorseful for 20 years but for 20 years I’ve been haunted by what was forced on me and humiliated by the people who didn’t care enough about me to not write character statements for my abuser.”

The damage is irreparable and Rider and Will will have to live with that for the rest of their lives. But my hope and wish is that will (or already have) reached out to Drake privately and apologized.

Another thing that haunts me about this entire thing is that Amanda wasn’t just funny like her coworkers, or funny like other Disney and Nickelodeon actresses. Amanda Bynes was funny like Carol Burnett. Funny like Lucille Ball. She was effervescent and classic. Her comedic sensibilities were deeply intelligent. She had *it*. And she should have grown into one of the best actresses of our generation. But *something* happened and derailed it all. Even if she’s not the same, I truly hope she’s well and happy. I want nothing but the best for her, even if it’s a quiet and private life. I adored her back then and always will.

Nothing I’ve read has changed me more than “you do people a favor by accepting their help” like I repeat this constantly to so many people because it’s true!!! People like to feel useful, they like to feel kind, they like to feel like they have an ability to impact people’s lives so just let them!! This is true on the interpersonal level and on the community level. Your friendsgroup/family/house/affinity-group/street will thrive so much better when people accept each others help. When there is a regular back and forth of people helping each other and people accepting that help, you get a generous community where needing help is not stigmatized. Accepting help is an essential component of that. You literally can’t have a functioning community without it.

I’ve been able to catch a couple pieces of Quiet On Set on various places on the internet, and I have a lot of thoughts. This is one of them: I was an uptight religious child and I thought the Amanda Show segment “Popper Pants” was weird and suggestive as a child watching it. But I never wanted to be seen as a prude so I forgot about it until I remembered it again this morning.

Guys, these kids are yanking each other’s pants open and pouring things down them? Having them bend over so they can rip holes into each others pants and eat what’s inside? Knowing what we know about the climate in the writer’s room, this is INSANE

If you're lamenting the fact that you used to be able to shoot through a 500-page novel in like a day when you were in middle school and now you can't, it's worth bearing in mind that a big part of that is because when you were in middle school, your reading comprehension sucked. Yes, mental health and the stresses of adult life can definitely be factors, but it's also the case that reading is typically more effortful as an adult because you've learned to Ponder The Implications. The material isn't just skimming over the surface of your brain anymore, and some of the spoons you used to spend on maximising your daily page count are now spent on actually thinking about what you're reading!
