Reflection
I'm going to take this time to just reflect on what I've posted so far. Music and technology are definitely good friends and will continue the friendship. It is important for music educators to know when it is appropriate to use technology and not to make it over bearing or useless. We need to keep the structure in the classroom but allow for children to explore their creativity. Technology is beneficial in general music classes more so than ensembles, in my opinion. There is so much you can do with technology; you can access recordings, apps, and instrument sounds with the touch of a button. iPads and other touch screen electronics can bring music making to students and others with disabilities who may not be able to play an instrument because of a handicap. Technology can make us more imaginative because we can find examples of people making music with anything. Even a man who molds a carrot into a clarinet. There is a slippery slope to having technology in classrooms because the children might want to bring in their own iPads, iPhones, and other things that start with "i" and you will lose their concentration and focus. Smart Boards can be used for interactive lessons that keep the children moving and carefully thought out lesson plans can make for exciting classes. You've seen some of my favorite music and why it means so much to me. I've bravely shared with you some of my own creations (because I had to it's required for the project) but also so someone out there is inspired to create their own work. It's not that hard I promise. It's just recordings and Audacity, which is a free software! If I have a general music class I will for sure be using these examples, like the music video project was fun and creative. A couple video logs would be fun at the class level. I'm not sure what will happen to this tumblr now. I enjoy posting about music and stuff, but I may not have the time to stick on top of this. We'll see.
I hope you enjoyed reading all this!
