This is so cool
Staring into your soul
crossdrift for my birthday gift to myself because they are my favs
It's been FAR too long since I've posted about Crosshairs/on this account at all, and somehow I still have tons of people interacting with the content....so thank you very much!!!!
Today I wanted to kinda approach a subject I inch away from because everyone has their own perspective and views on crosshairs as a character. Simply because a lot of his personality you have to makeup with the lack of attention placed on him in Bayverse.
I think though that I have a pretty good feeling of his character so I figured I'd share some things with people after analyzing him in the movies (a million times)
Section 1 (Teamwork)
One of Crosshairs biggest "made up" traits is that he hates teamwork, which is kind of just this generalized idea bout him which just isn't true at all!! Infact, he's one of the only Cybertronians in the movie to actively partake in on screen teamwork! (with drift actually, three times!)
I won't get heavily into the teamwork between the two, because I could infact go on forever but the tag team with onslaught, when fighting Megatron in The last night, and once more in Age of Extinction! Which is hard to tell because you don't see it, but they switch dinobots/ride the same dinobot multiple times if you count the number of dinobots without a autobot on em!
Crosshairs overall ability to work with other people is EXTREMELY overlooked because of his opening scenes in AOE, which I totally understand!
Another pet peeve of mine is when people call him the starscream of the autobots, don't get me wrong! Love starscream, but Crosshairs is just....the complete opposite. Starscream places actual effort into harming Megatron and/or taking his place. Crosshairs talks big yes, but never raises a hand to prime and is one of the only bots who just shuts up and doesn't go against OP's orders OR makes a snarky comment. When it comes to Optimus prime, it seems he has a lot of respect that he doesn't know how to deal with. This point just gets proven more in the end of AOE when Optimus "tames" grimlock.
Mini section 2 (Accent)
This one is pretty well known information, but I have seen people confuse his accent for Australian or something similar to it. It is infact British and NOT Australian.
Section 3 (Redditors)
I might get....a little passionate in this section, just simply because this makes me very upset. The whole argument that Crosshairs was written by a child (which surprisingly was said a lot) and that his Design is slighty weird.
Firstly, Crosshairs entire character is NOT classic generic hero. Infact, most people see him as the farthest thing, some people don't see him as hero at all!!! Crosshairs has a undeniable ability to hate what he does, but is amazing at it regardless.
While he may not want to do it, (which might be tied into his past, that I won't get into becauase I've already gotten into it before in a previous post) he always always does and he's never actually left anyone behind or betrayed anyone. Crosshairs character is extremely in depth, not because he's "edgy" or because he's just this mean stereotypical character. It's because he simply is just that kind of guy.
When you think of Crosshairs personality, try to picture a fun guy, topped off with this irritable personality, a gruff exterior but sort of soft on the inside obviously. He never admits how much good he wants to do in the world, becauase why would he do that? Crosshairs is definitely a believer in the "actions mean more than words"
To Top it All Off?
"why doesn't he have a sniper rifle"
Firstly, if he had a sniper rifle: that'd be amazing. And a great element to include. Imagine him being all mysterious, hiding with a sniper rifle!
But unfortunately he has the point blank guns because, screentime, it looks better, and of course the Bayverse syndrome where your weapon has to match your personality!
Ahh, so I'm not the only one who thinks that the interaction between the characters (especially with the Transformers) are a complete disaster/confusing. I want to see some emotions and friendships explained, not only rage and revenge or just... Being neutral??? I'm not sure if I explained that right :') I'm sorry for my broken English, I totally agree with your opinion in this
Absolutely!!!! (also LOVE the gif)
I feel like bayverse does a horrible job with making the characters seem like real sentient beings than just robots who fight. Because that's not all they do, they have relationships, friendships, likes, dislikes, personalities.
Age of extinction was probably the closest we'd get to the transformers interacting on a normal sentient like level. With OP grieving ratchets death, Bumblebee and Drift fighting, and Crosshairs and drift.
Other than that, everyother duo absolutely was trashed by Bayverse complete incompetence at focusing on the main focal point (the transformers) than the humans. You can def tell Bayverse tried to make them "tough" and that involved erasing every amount of interaction possible between the characters.
That's one of the reasons I love Crosshairs and drifts duo so much. They actually interact on more than just a "fighting over bs" level. Whereas bumblebee and cross fight, cross and Hound fight, etc etc. We get to see them, slightly, interact with eachother on a more friendly level.
Drift didn't have Crosshairs at his throat everytime he said something about him or touched him AND drift and Crosshairs have their own attack combo together which is 100% something I wanted to have seen more!
But I don't want to go babbling on about every little detail on Crosshairs and Drifts interactions so I'll just finish this off with yes.
Bayverse sucks at making their characters REAL.
What do you think about Spike and Crosshairs?
The dinobots confused me in this movie...mainly because Bayverse is SO bad at having the transformers interact with eachother....
But I do think they're a great duo! The fanart of them is cute for the most part. I wish I had more to say about them but ugh once again Bayverse and their dumbass character interaction phobia.
Crosshairs was definitely more open to being with spike at the end of the movie and i suppose it is true that he probably virtually had more emotional attachment to spike than Optimus to Grimlock or Drift to slug and so forth.
How did you come to like Crosshairs as a character?
For me personally, it was his design, colors and his personality.
Im asking this cause I always love hearing how and why people like certain characters.
I actually remember the first time I ever saw Crosshairs was when I first started watching BAYVERSE movies. I watched them out of order and so TLK came before AOE for me.
Never really cared about Crosshairs or any other character in Tlk for that matter besides y'know... the main people. Especially since cross and all of the others didn't make much of an appearance anyways.
Although when I did come around and finally watched all the Bay movies in order, I distinctly remember sitting in my grandparents rocking chair, home alone when Crosshairs jumped off the ship and his slow mo scene played and I don't know why but something just snapped and I made a edit of him.
As far as why I chose him personally to educate myself in....no idea. I do remember vividly though finding no content of him at all and what I DID find was so deep in Google or other resources that it was impossible to refind/share with others becauase I had literally nothing to support my claims
So before I created this account, what got me into Crosshairs was his differences from the other characters. Unlike all the other autobots, Crosshairs is a bayverse original character. You can say he's like his G1 counterpart all you want but it's actually not true. He was based off G1 slingshot, which yes, is weird and it does infact make it much more difficult to relate G1 to TLK/AOE. G1 Crosshairs hardly got any screentime as it is anyways.
To me it was intreasting why they chose Crosshairs to be a main Cybertronian in the movies, considering Drift was a pretty big character, along with Bee, Hound and everyone else that ever appeared in Bay movies. They didn't really have a knack for including background characters. Every transformer they put in their movies was someone who everyone knew (Ex Ironhide, Ratchet, Jazz, OP, Bee, mirage, etc etc)
But yes! His design is very cool and unique compared to others!! That's another reason he's one of my favorites but...if I'm being honest, it wasn't what drew me in at all!!
Do you ship AOE & TLK Crosshairs x Drift? If yes, how did you come to like the Ship?
Also have a wonderful Day :D
I do actually!!
Im not sure how I actually started shipping them, I think it might have started as a Joke to be completely honest.
But I've always been an over observer when it came to movies that I'm intreasted in or characters I love, and I always find the cutest little details and so one thing led to another!!
I really liked how they were such a good team/one of the duos not fighting the entire movie. (Ex. Bee+Drift, Drift+Hound, crosshairs+Cade, Crosshairs+bee Crosshairs+hound)
It must made their relationship more surreal.
!!!!Ask Box Open!!!!
I figured it'd be much easier to spread my Crosshaids Knowledge if people asked questions instead of just posting random stuff. Soooo...
My ask box is open if you want to know anything about any Crosshairs specific content. (in which I'll try my best to find and share!)
Bonus :))
Been a full two days since I uploaded!!
Anyways, one of my favorite, accessible Crosshairs comics.
How to ride a Dinobot!!
(also some of my favorite canon crossdrift content <33)
Crosshairs Backstory/ Personality breakdown
I know it may seem like Crosshairs has little to no backstory, but that isn't true at all.
In the UK, a comic series called Titan Comics released tons of Transformer comics. They ranged from Tfp, Dark of the moon, etc, but most importantly they're were age of extinction ones released.
While I do not have access to the full comic (I've searched the whole Internet for a link, a product, something, but there's nothing), I do have summaries that have helped me understand majority of this comic issue along with a few vauge panels from the comic!
Creature of Chaos
Age of Extinction: Issue #5
Crosshairs was on a mission of some sort with Optimus Prime when they intercepted a signal. They had come across a creature called a Turbo Fox,when it attacked though, Crosshairs fled, leaving Optimus to fend for himself.
Optimus Prime manages to fend them off, and find Crosshairs. Crosshairs ends up telling Optimus that he was commanding a group of soldiers, when turbo foxes attacked but he was too far ahead to save them and he had to watch as the creture killed every single one of them. Crosshairs mentioned he could literally hear their screaming voices in his head...so he probably is suffering PTSD at this point from the event.
Many people believe Crosshairs to be this "self absorbed" type of character, and while...yes it may seem like that at times, it's completely valid.
Crosshairs obviously suffers from PTSD, his inability to trust his teamates flows completely with this condition, scared that of he makes attachments he might go through all of that again. His desire to be a leader/fly solo may also stem from this event, on one hand he wants to prove he can be a leader and have a second chance, but he often wants to go solo so there's no possible chance that he can ever screw up again.
Crosshairs is a blunt dude, he's always making sure everyone is aware that he DOESN'T want to do something. (Fight the dinobots, sabotage lockdowns ship, staying on earth, etc etc) It does happen to coordinate perfectly though, he never actually leaves his teammates despite saying he wants too, he tries his best to express his disdain for something and influence his team to leave alongside with him- when they don't, that means he has to stick along. Though Crosshairs truly must not want to do or be a part of something, the fact his team does not share his disdain with the mission or task at hand but he stays regardless... Means he isn't such a "self absorbed" character at all.
Crosshairs cares a lot about his team, it's obvious- he has practiced moves with Drift, he helped watch Izabella when Cade and Bee left for London, he rejoices when Optimus reunites with them and he stays queit and sits back when Optimus is upset.(EX: Optimus confornting Joshua Joyce about Ratchet and Leadfoot, while Crosshairs stayed silent and did not make a move untill Optimus commanded him to do so )
If Crosshairs truly did not care he would have gone solo already, found something to do with his life but he does care. While his approches to some situations are often cruel and self absorbed like (EX: wanting to leave Lockdowns ship immediately after not seeing Optimus and Tessa) it's for the best of the team, and it is true that he just does not want to lose them like he did his other one.
Extras:
Crosshairs Concept Art
Bot mode:
Crosshairs Concept Art + concept designs
Different goggle variants, face shapes, + different weapons.
- there's also a different variant of Crosshairs alt mode, with the parachutes undone in his alt mode which is a cool detail.
This Deisgn is an unnamed Corvette Concept Art peice, probably before Crosshairs got his name and distinct Deisgn. It's crazy that this is what they were working with before they came up with the design Crosshairs has in the actual movies.
Artist for all the above art: W.Burt (he made a lot of the concept drift, Hound, and dinobot art too :))
Alt modes:
2014 Chevrolet c7 Corvette stingray:
Decals: American Flag, Compuware, Gt2, Alex Fuel, Motorola, Mobile and a Corvette sticker on the windshield.
The practice of using advertising/sponsorships on a car (like in the photos) is traditionally used on Race cars. Indicating Crosshairs at one point, probably either scanned a race car or participated in races.
The other alt modes just have different stripe variants and no stickers.
Artist for the alt mode art: W. Manser
Concept art, extra scenes, and rough drafts are really hard to find for Age of extinction and such. If I find more it'll definitely be a post of it's own 🙏
Fun Facts about Crosshairs Pt.1
1. Crosshairs pre-production name was slingshot.
2. Crosshairs Autobot Insignia is locating on the back of his neck/The wrap around peice that connects his trench coat.
3. Crosshairs was hinted towards being a cowboy in the Titan comics, using words like howdy and also having a more western styled trench coat.
4. Some of the most endearing things about the humans to Crosshairs specifically is basketball, Cream teas and Sunday roasts. (Which is funny since Sunday roasts and cream teas are both british meals)
5. Crosshairs has once acted as a translator for Bumblebee... (Purposefully not very accurate one of course)
