I feel like I need to start posting again. So here's a picture of us taking the baby to a rock climbing gym with the neighbors. I unfortunately didn't get a picture of me, but see how high those walls are? I climbed those suckers! The baby just watched, unimpressed. See how bored she looks here?

Got tickets to see this inspirational woman @amandapalmer … I couldn’t be more excited. As an artist I’m often laughed at when I talk about my dreams and I find myself less and less willing to be open about myself with people. People like Amanda are a constant reminder to shut out the negativity and be yourself. Her #tedtalk was truly amazing. Check it out if you haven’t yet. #theartofasking

I'm so excited to go with you, Gorgeous!  First girls activity out of the house without the little one! (Though a part of me wants to start exposing Alex to this kind of thing early, there's no guarantee she won't start fussing right in the middle of some insightful commentary from Ms Palmer).

The Dresden Dolls was one of the first bands that I fell head over heels in love with, and this will be my 4th time seeing @amandapalmer --once as the Dresden Dolls, once as part of a night of Celluloid Vaudeville (god that was like a decade ago), once in Boston for a showing of Cabaret (I ended up with some killer flu and vomited my way across Harvard's campus after intermission--good times!), and now this.  She's always lovely and inspiring.

Nominees: Mark Gill (director, writer, and editor) and Baldwin Li (writer, producer, composer, and editor) Length: 12:50 Logline: Sherlock and The Hobbit franchise star Martin Freeman plays a psychiatrist tasked with evaluating the titular prisoner (Tom Hollander), who believes himself to be a god. And he can prove it. So how is it? This witty, fleet Twilight Zone-like story is almost too short, which makes me hope the filmmakers are planning a feature-length version.

Holiday-ish recipe: Ginger Nuts

Ginger nuts are a favorite store-bought biscuit in most parts of the UK and Ireland, but homemade ones are way better. And somehow or other I seem to have made these three times in the last week and a bit, so I think I’ve acquired some expertise.

If you want to make some holiday-ish biscuits/cookies that aren’t a lot of trouble, especially for gifts, these are an excellent bet. They’re crisp and flavorful and very more-ish. They’re also a good sort of bikkie to make if you want to let children or those who are normally a little baking-challenged assist (meaning it’s the kind of thing you can do sitting around the table with a bunch of adults and a bottle of wine, gossiping while you do the slightly repetitive work of getting them ready to bake).

Making the dough takes twenty minutes or a bit more, depending on how long you spend creaming the sugar and butter and flour together. After that it’s just a matter of how quickly you feel like assembling each baking sheet’s worth of cookies / biscuits. The dough refrigerates nicely for short periods, but because ginger nuts are raised only with baking soda / bicarbonate of soda, I wouldn’t keep the dough unbaked for more than 4-6 hours. The recipe makes between four and five dozen gingernuts, depending on how large you roll the pieces.
