Spring had always been Sloane’s favorite time of year. The transition from cold and dreary to bright and beautiful always happened to lift her spirits, which was something she especially needed now. She had hoped spending the afternoon outside in Bryant Park would help spark her creativity for her latest freelance assignment, however, her plan seemed to have been failing.
She sat at a table by herself, increasingly growing frustrated with how wrong all of her sketches were turning out to be. “Ugh!” she grumbled as she ripped a page out of her sketch book and tossed it completely without looking.
“Taste this,” he instructed, holding out a saucy spoon to the other, eyebrows knitted together as he watched their expression unfold.
The restaurant closed over an hour ago, and despite his kitchen staff’s pleas to join them for a drink, Devon remained behind. As a new restaurant owner, he was drunk with power, unable to stop thinking of new recipes, dishes and drinks to compliment. And often, when he didn’t answer his phone, there was only one place they could’ve been. The kitchen.
“Too much or not enough cognac?” Devon wondered, arms crossing over his broad chest. “You need to be able to taste it without feeling like you’ve just taken a shot.” Turning back to the stove, he dipped his finger into the pan before bringing it up to his lips. “I drink too much to even taste it anymore.” @codstarters
Hazel hues expanded in delight at the sight of the spoon brought in front of them. Without hesitation, she happily obeyed. Sloane’s eyes closed as pure joy washed over her. She loved the nights she was able to visit Devon at his restaurant to help taste-test his latest food experiment. She never thought being neighbors with someone could have such great benefits as this. She shook her head in response. “Mmm, no. I think you put the perfect amount; it blends so well with all the other flavors. Ugh. Devon, will you just marry already?” she laughed.

Grew up an only child, but never felt negatively about it, especially when her parents gave her all the love she could ever want. She never had any trouble making friends when she was younger, and went on plenty of play dates, birthday parties, and sleepovers as a child to satisfy her need to be around other kids her own age.
(TW: DIVORCE)
Her parents were the picture perfect couple of what it meant to love another person. However, around the age of seven, Sloane’s parents began to have a bit of problems. It started with little passive aggressive comments from her mother to her father and later on would turn into arguments. From what Sloane could overhear every now and then in their two-story townhouse in Brooklyn, the one thing they fought about most had to do with her mom’s job as a news producer. The more they fought, the less her mother was around. Within two year’s time, her parents were divorced and Sloane and her father relocated to an apartment in downtown Brooklyn. Outside of the yearly greeting cards in the mail for holidays and phone calls on her birthday, Sloane’s mom’s presence was pretty much non-existent once things ended with her and her father, which unfortunately led Sloane to feel that she somehow had a hand in breaking her parents up and to this day still can’t quite shake that feeling even though she knows she couldn’t possibly have done anything wrong.
Needless to say, after her parents’ divorce, Sloane’s perception of romantic relationships shifted. While she doesn’t quite inhibit herself from giving men a chance, she can’t help but always have this wonder in the back of her mind of how long will it be until the relationship is over.
Drawing has always been something Sloane was very skilled at. She’d doodle in her notebooks during class, on long car rides, and vacations. In high school, her art teacher even tried to help get her in to The New School to study illustration, but her father convinced her to pursue a career that would be more ‘reliable’ instead. There wasn’t too much else Sloane had been interested in, but thanks to the summers in which she helped her father at the front desk of the hotel he managed, she decided to study hospitality instead.
Sloane never let go her dream of being an illustrator and instead decided to freelance in that field on the side. She’d been doing pretty well with it (financial, too), but she can’t bring herself to quit her job to pursue it full-time because she doesn’t want to disappoint her father.

After her parent’s divorce, being a single father, Sloane and her dad developed a very close relationship. No matter how busy life got, he always made sure he was there for Sloane. Whether that was for nightly dinners, school time vacations, or weekly phone calls once she moved out. He’s the one man she can consistently rely on.
Gets very upset whenever someone breaks a promise to her, which is a feeling she has her mother to thank for. Her mom would make promises to visit her or even have her stay some weekends, but something would always come up and she never made it up to Sloane.
Reluctantly answers her mother’s phone calls, and despite better judgement still has hopes any plans they make won’t fall through.
Owns varying sized assortment of sketchbooks, and has one packed away in every single purse and bag she owns.
When working on any of her drawings, she’ll pull her hair up into a messy bun. Whenever she takes breaks during her process, she’ll store her pencil in her hair, and more often than not will forget that’s where she left it. If she doesn’t have someone around to point it out to her, she’ll just give up and grab another pencil. She does this so much while on her own that she’ll end up with at least four pencils resting in her hair until she lets her hair back down.
Gets clumsy when interacting with someone she finds attractive. She’ll trip over her own two feet, knock things over, drop things, and even walk into walls.
Loves horror movies. Doesn’t matter to her if they’re goofy either; she still finds them enjoyable, but definitely appreciates them more if they can manage to actually scare her.
