âWorse comes to worst, sheâs got a functioning phone, yes? So all is well. Just tell her to keep it charging or at a decent charge.â
âher mom and sister should be rght behind them. itâs kinda funny though.âÂ
âSo my best friend is driving home from Florida and sheâs freaking out because her boyfriend got tired and pulled over to a rest stop to sleep, since he wonât let her drive. She doesnât want them to both sleep there and her freak out is because sheâs seen too many Criminal minds episodes.â Autumn laughs, looking at her phone.
âOeh, what is it about?â
âWell it takes place in the â50âČs in Memphis,Tennessee and basically itâs about music and pushing the racism border with music. Itâs a really good show.â
âAnd this is why Iâve always loved you,â she said with a smile.
âThe world is full of double standards that favor the woman and as a woman, I hate it!â Autumn grumles
âYou are honestly my favorite person right now.  I hate that term.  Especially when people canât tell the difference between shaming someone and making a statement that is trying to make an point about equality.  I also have to agree about the sex and rape thing.  Like honestly itâs not that hard to understand that no means no.âÂ
âYou know a nother double standard I hate? How people hate the whole âdaddyâ daddy thing, which was actually a term of endearment back in the fifties, fun fact, but is totally okay to call a woman mama. Like i donât agree with the whole thing, but f its okay to call a woman mama, its okay to call a guy daddy. Or opposite, you get what mean?â
"I hate the term 'slut-shaming' because it says there's such a thing of a slut. No. If a woman wears short clothes or enjoys sex, she's not a slut. Its not slut shaming. Its just shaming. Its like the term consensual sex, which says there's a thing as non-consensual sex. There's not. Its sex and rape. Its not slut shaming. Its shaming." Autumn fumes.
âI work better under pressure too. What plays are there playing?â
âRight now weâre doing Memphis the Musical.â
âIsnât that stressing though?â she laughed.
It is stressful, But itâ part of the love of it.â
âItâs a part many people donât appreciate.âÂ
âNo they donât. Or understand either.â
âThat is the beauty of art.âÂ
âLike I said, Itâs my favorite part.â
slow-down-autumn:
âI love live theatre. I love the unexpected. Its the best parts.â Autumn giggles.
âBut isnât theatre always live? Or do you mean like unscripted?â
"Well yes. Theatre is live, but some hear theatre and think of the cinema. See the best part is, you don't know whats gunna happen. A set piece could break, a costume could completely rip, or an important prop could go missing. We had our lead actor lose his voice tonight."
"I love live theatre. I love the unexpected. Its the best parts." Autumn giggles.
âAnd when did we decide to do this?â The red haired girl laughs.
âCause we both aer close to Maddy and itâd be fun to learn a new language. Plus itâd be a cute surprise.â
âGrab your daughter and meet me at my car.â
Autumn laughs and gets Kelsey, meeting Rosa at her car. âWhere too.â
He beams and waits for her to open the present.
Smiling, Autumn ripped openn the wrapping.
I like to go by this one motto, itâs cheesy, but itâs reassuring. âIn the end, everything will be okay. If things arenât okay, itâs not the end.â So whenever I start freaking out because somethingâs not right, I think about it, and realize I have time to fix it.
Thatâs probably the best thing I have ever heard. It definetly helps.
slow-down-autumn:
Have you ever had this⊠slow feel of emptiness, being surrounded by friends who are happy, in relationships. I mean guys donât even give me a sideways glance when they see me and Kelsey. And youâre just alone a lot? Me too.
Thatâs whatâs great about being a mom. You can be alone romantically and still be incredibly happy. Then youâre gonna meet either a great he or a she or a they or a ze and maybe they canât have kids or are willing to work with that because kids are great or something, and that wonât even matter. Youâve just gotta keep your head up. Besides, Kelsey, was it? Youâre her entire world and no guy will ever love you as much as that little girl. Youâre her little Superwoman, you can do everything. And who knows? Maybe there are guys out there that give you that look. Theyâre just scared of having to go through her test to get to Mommy.
Thatâs true. Itâs just sometimes, being surrounded by others happiness, romantic happiness, it gets lonely. i donât mind it being just me and kelsey, I just have a fear of loneliness.Â
