Slowing Down

"Oh those days were the days..."

Hi! Welcome to my first complete collection, it's titled "Slowing Down" because for me, I think we should all take a step back and slow down. Life is a BIG thing and maybe it's better to take it slowly.

There's a theme somewhere here, childhood but also growing up in general. I do hope you can notice it but otherwise enjoy the poems!

1. Marigold

-

Marigold.

I'm so cold,

and I miss you every Saturday night.

Do you call my name?

Thinking I'll come back again...

Or are you fine out there with somebody,

who's not me?

Oh Marigold...

do ya miss my name?

Do ya call when you think that I'm coming home?

Do ya miss me now,

that you're missing out?

Missing out on being somewhere,

without me.

Oh baby I hope you

see me at night,

up in the stars and you'll realise

I was wrong.

I know I was wrong.

But you know:

It's not you; it's not me.

It's just how things - ought to be,

but I'm sorry for ever proving you,

right.

Oh marigold please just come kiss me,

goodnight.

2. it's gonna be alright

The beauty of the sky,

the melody of the sea.

Baby, I'm no longer that version o' me.

I'm missing you,

each day I cry...

I'm wishing you,

said goodbye, t' me.

Do ya care, to listen?

Have I, overdid it?

Maybe I'm covered head to toe, in guilt...

Maybe I didn't know how, it'd feel, to be alone.

I'm not happy,

you're not saying you're fine.

We're still fighting;

but it's gonna be alright.

I know that it's gonna be alright.

Can ya hold me? My deary...

Don't ya know me? Sure its scary,

to fight.

But I don't wanna fight, with you.

Would ya care to, just listen?

Can ya tell me, if I overdid it...

Maybe my egos making it so hard to see.

Maybe your angers making ya take it out on me.

I'm not happy,

you're not saying you're fine.

We're still fighting;

but it's gonna be alright.

I know that it's gonna be alright.

3. Cryin' On A Friday

-

You're waitin' at the window,

waitin' for the sun to rise.

Ya girlfriend's mama wants you

to go home,

you can see it in 'er eyes.

But you keep dancing;

keep up with the vibe.

When it's a weekday and you got homework,

but you probably ain't gonna revise.

You're a party boy-babe

stuck in school,

on a Friday.

You're makin' jokes

and they're - well - kinda funny.

But, back at home at night,

in your apartment life:

ya cryin'.

Ya cryin' on a Friday.

So now ya up all night;

and ya, rushing home.

Tryna make it back;

then ya kick ya papa's gnome

and he's mad.

But what can ya do?

Do ya still sit back?

Slack off, laze around.

Do ya not know you got-

no steady ground!

"When you're older!"

Ah but what do they know?

But you keep dancing;

keep up with the vibe.

Do ya think it's funny;

do ya think it's gay?

Or are ya one of them

party boy-babes,

who's cryin',

4. Adolescence

-

I'm takin' my meds and I'm screamin'.

Cryin' like a lil' kid.

I'm hopin' ya get this, my dearest,

I think that ya probably will.

I'm so grown now.

Older by the day.

I've been told now,

my adolescence, it's

getting away...

Sure I'm older, not wiser.

But maybe, I'll know.

Do ya know me?

Do ya care to?

It'd make me, feel less alone...

Oh my adolescence, it's gone.

5. Running Home To You!

-

Oh those were the days when I was running home to you.

Laughing and screaming,

running home to you.

I was a

small child.

And I was - so pure.

I met myself-

that night;

and I pictured,

running home,

to you.

It's all in the way you do!

It's all in the way you breathe!

But maybe I'm just doing this

cause,

I see you in me.

I'm running home to you!

I'm making myself known!

I'm picturing how I'd get better,

truth be told I won't!

But I'll be running home to you!

I am,

so grown.

It'd make my

mama cry!

I think,

I know.

But deep down

I just wanna die!!

It's all in the way you do!

It's all in the way you breathe!

But maybe I'm just doing this

cause,

I see you in me.

I'm running home to you!

I'm making myself known!

I'm picturing how I'd get better,

truth be told I won't!

But I'll be running home to you!

And I'll be working late,

I'll be playing hard.

I'm working myself off,

till I meet the mark.

Then I'll be

Running!

Home!

To!

6. Pictures

-

You made me happier, one day in June.

I was picturing myself, with you,

in a small downtown restaurant,

coffee in our hands.

I was waiting for, oh so long, for you to ask me to dance.

I took your arm,

you took my hand,

I kissed your lips.

Please don't let me go back...

Loving you is a sin and a curse.

I fear it's only - getting worse.

There is no cure, no fixtures.

Oh baby, I cherish all our pictures.

You took me into your embrace.

Touched me, kissed me, then cupped my face.

I cried so long over you.

I miss you baby,

I really do.

I reached for your arm,

my hand slipped away.

Tried to kiss your lips;

but you didn't stay,

with me.

7. Slowing Down

-

I'm holding on,

to every midnight song,

you used to sing,

when I was feeling low.

I'm writing songs.

Sat in my room

what's going on?

And what the fuck do I do,

with myself?

I miss you-

I do, I really do.

And I'm holding on to every piece of you...

But I'm moving too far and too fast.

Just slow down and bring me back.

And prithee kiss me on valentines day,

when I know that I'm no longer afraid-

that you don't love me, you know that you do.

Ain't it funny what slowing down does to you?

I'm still sitting down.

I'm getting back up:

just go lay down

again.

Making my bed;

reading in my room

about people, people all my life.

Why don't I just go outside?

I'm wondering,

what did I ever do to you.

Oh, what did I do?

I'm writing songs.

Sat in my room

what's going on?

And what the fuck do I do,

with myself?

I miss you-

I'm holding everyone accountable;

but not me.

What do I do,

with myself?

I wonder, do you blame me for

never finding

nobody else,

to be.

Well that's so me.
