Why Rosa is so good

Never once you hear “racism is wrong”.

They didn’t fall into that huge trap.

What I mean is, the episode wasn’t overly melodramatic, they didn’t play violins and sad music, they didn’t try to show racism is wrong - because anyone with a functional brain already knows racism is immensely stupid, people already know it’s wrong.

They didn’t focus on the negativity of racism.

They focused on the sheer positivity of that wonderful and amazing woman.

The end wasn’t, “what happened to this woman was horribly wrong”.

The end was, “that woman kicks arses and she was badass enough to make a stand and fight for her rights, and she changed the whole bloody future”.

I loved it. This was the message I wanted to see in this episode. This was the kind of message I want to see in Doctor Who. It was amazing.

Oh, and that, too:

- the Doctor is not the hero in this episode. Seriously, she’s just a sidekick who helps the hero be heroic, and even then, she couldn’t have helped without her gang. The real hero is Rosa Parks.

- no SJW  and everything will get better shit in this. It felt real, very factual. Horrible, yes, but real.

- for some reasons, this episode strongly reminded me of Rose’s speech (here) in S1 finale The Parting of Ways  - change the word Doctor into Rosa Parks in that speech and you get something along the lines of :

Rosa showed us a better way of living, that you just don’t give up, you just don’t let things happen, you make a stand, you say no.

- And that’s the message in this episode. And that’s why I believe Rosa is the real Doctor in this episode. She’s a better Doctor than the Doctor has ever been, in a way.

So, yeah. Rosa is the best DW that’s ever been made IMO. Because it has and it is everything DW should have always been about.

OMG (literary criticism rambling coming your way)

So, I'm watching Forest of the Dead for my current research projet on Lyotardian language games and the criticism of technoscience dominance, and I'm nose deep into the part where Donna has been saved (note the subtlety of the word, with the difference between saved as a file on a hard drive and saved as in kept alive, this is important for this kind of analysis). Anyway.

So, I'm taking notes and find myself abbreviating Doctor Moon's name to DM. As in, DUNGEON MASTER, and Doctor Moon is the bloody entity here to make sure people are integrated in the data core and kinda defines the rules. DM as in an RPG and I'm talking about language games and he just uses language to shape Donna into the kind of data he wants her to be (and then you forgot - and then you remembered, etc.) 😲😱

It might just be a coincidence, but just for the sake of talking about Doctor Who for five more minutes in my final Postmodernism exam, let's say it wasn't and get over excited at this discovery! 😂

So I started it again because I didn't like the Rose screen cap, it didn't quite fit - yes I'm a pain in my own bum 😭 I'll leave the hair for now and start working on Rose! 🙂 Hopefully this time it'll look better 🤣

TBH everything is pretty much impro, especially from the eyes to the top (the screen cap cuts just above the eyes, the eyebrows are not even on it 😱) So it might not look like DT but we'll pretend it's just the 10th Doctor 😁
