It’s rare that you see your husband looking at himself in the mirror, let alone looking at himself for an extended amount of time. You pause in the doorway to your bedroom, steaming coffee in both hands, and observe. Jotaro is naked (another rarity, you note, unless he’s in bed) in front of the mirror, turning and twisting as one might do in a dressing room when trying on clothes. His brows are knit while he pokes and pulls at his body, grumbling when he turns to the side to look at his stomach.

“Honey?” You call. Jotaro whips his head to the side with a bewildered expression for a fraction of a second before he takes on the neutral look you were used to seeing him with. 

You step inside and deposit your coffee mugs on the nightstand before coming to stand with your husband, leaning on his warm side. Jotaro grunts, but doesn’t move away — a sign you’d come to learn meant that he welcomed affection.

“Are you planning to model for the Speedwagon Foundation next?” You gently knock into his side. Jotaro scoffs at your joke, but you don’t miss the way his left lip curls up ever so slightly. He remains quiet for a moment until he meets your eyes in the mirror. 

“What do you think?” Jotaro asks. You raise an eyebrow at him in the mirror, confused.

“Think about what, JoJo?” He huffs at the use of his nickname but otherwise remains silent. You wrap an arm around his broad body and squeeze him gently, pressing your head into his arm. “I know something’s up. I can’t read your mind.”

Your husband had always had trouble expressing his feelings, despite the fact you’d been married coming up on 15 years now. Gentle coercion from you had pushed him to feel better about expressing himself. Still, it was a struggle for Jotaro, who had kept his emotions bottled up for years upon years.  

“About… this. Me.” Jotaro struggles to get the words out, averting his eyes. He grabs at his body again, rolling the soft skin of his stomach between his fingers. “I don’t look like how I did when we got married…”

It catches you off guard. Jotaro had never once complained about feeling self-conscious. He had always been a man who cared little about what he looked like, focusing instead on tangible acts. Though he wore gaudy outfits, it was more about comfort and familiarity to your husband. 

The fact that Jotaro feels anything less than worthy of your love makes your heart hurt, and you wonder just how long he’s been holding this in.

“Jotaro,” You murmur. “I would never judge you by your looks in the first place. But if you’re asking me, you’re the most handsome man in the world.”

Jotaro meets your gaze in the mirror again, his cheeks flushed the slightest bit of pink. 

“Look at you,” you coo, pulling up your arm that laid around his waist to rest on his chest instead, hand stroking softly across his pectorals. Jotaro swallows loudly but doesn’t stop you — another sure sign from your husband to continue. “This body has been through so much, and yet it’s still so strong.” You move your hand to run across a few of his scars from previous battles, sighing. “It’s incredible. You’re incredible.” 

Jotaro’s face is getting pinker by the second.

You take your hands off of him to step behind him, opting to wrap both arms around him. You have to poke your head out to the side to catch his face in the mirror, but it’s worth it when you catch the little smile playing on Jotaro’s lips.

You squeeze his stomach, soft with time but still hard underneath the extra skin. A trail of hair runs down to his lower body, neatly trimmed. If you weren’t busy complimenting him, you’d direct your hand down to that spot… Perhaps later.

“You like that? Really?” Jotaro says, incredulous as you gently knead his stomach. 

“Are you kidding me?” You say. You press a kiss to his lower back in reassurance. “You’re perfect. This,” you squeeze his stomach again, gentle. “is perfect.”

Jotaro shakes his head, but he can’t hide the smile that keeps rising on his lips when he thinks you’re not looking. 

You step back around to face his front and smile warmly at him. The sun is coming in just right through the curtains to illuminate Jotaro’s face, his deep blue eyes shining in the light. There’s stubble growing on his face and his salt and pepper hair is mussed — he must have stopped on the way to his morning shower. 

You reach your hands up to cup his face and Jotaro leans into your touch, eyes closing. He was always so sweet with you, the side he kept hidden from the world blooming when he was at home. 

“I love you. I’ll always love you, Jotaro Kujo.” You stroke his cheeks as you talk, enjoying the soft moment with your lover.

Jotaro mumbles a response, keeping his eyes shut. “… love you too.”

Jotaro enjoys your touch for a moment longer before he gently pushes your hands away. It’s not for long that you’re apart, though — he wraps his arms around you and presses your face into his chest, softly stroking your hair.

“Let’s go back to bed.” Jotaro states. 

Well, that sounded like a lovely idea, you did have two hot coffees ready and waiting. “But, our coffee?”

Jotaro pulls back and gives you his signature look, raising one thick eyebrow. “The coffee can wait.”

He releases you from the hug only to gently pull you towards your bed, insistent until you give in, climbing into the bed with him. You find yourself underneath your husband with an intense look on his face you knew very well. 

Jotaro smiles, no longer trying to hide it.

“It’s my turn to show you how much you mean to me.”
