It was supposed to be a warm up, but then Cas feels happened and well. wip.
for any followers who haven’t seen Interview With the Vampire it’s about the horrific experience of being in love with someone who is French
Me: *scrolling tumblr*
Castiel: I love you
Me: Dear god what’s happened now
You don't have to say it. I heard your prayer.
↳ dean + praying to/for cas
god's greatest gifts to the world were transgenderism, big beverage, jerking off, and creating art
booktok did ruin a lot of romance novels bc of the demand for instant gratification but culturally it is kind of a slay that so many young women are just reading smut and masturbating all day #respect
JENSEN ACKLES as Dean Winchester Supernatural | 1.12 “Faith”
it’s so deeply un normal how dean winchester is like the key to understanding everything about human sexuality and the fluctuating border of “gay identity” over the past forty years
dean winchester IS disadvantaged by the forward march of time in that the codification of modern gay identity has stripped him of the kind of intimacies with other men that could previous exist on the margins — he‘s caught between liking men/wanting to have sex with them and an understanding of gayness as an inherently damning thing that then gets pulled out from under him as gay people start showing up on tv and buying homes in suburbia. it’s a sunk cost where he’s accepted for so long that he can’t possibly be gay because to be gay is something pitiful and weak and sissy that it perversely makes it harder for him to identify as lgbt when gayness goes mainstream and marriage gets legalized because then what the hell was the last forty years of being closeted for? and of course he can’t question the division in his mind has between the grand legacy of american masculinity and the inherent femininity of homosexuality Even Though he’s completely getting story wrong in that the frontier WAS the place to be gay with no societal norms forcing you to settle down with a wife and kids. and of course early days supernatural as a drifter story has to be inherently gay because there’s no way you hustle for money and sleep in shitty motels and look for monsters hiding in alleyways and don’t encounter cruisers, men buying sex from other men, people who have been pushed to the margins by transphobia and homophobia and poverty and likely a combination of those. so when “ouroboros” comes around and the villain is at last someone who pulls that inherent queerness explicitly into the story by casting every truck stop not just as a potential crime scene but as a setting for queer sex, that refracts back on dean’s entire marginal existence and the loss of such spaces where “identity” takes a backseat to drive and desire. and of course for dean there’s never a moment when it’s actually “safe” for him to settle down with anyone, never mind that he has a very particular expectation placed on him from childhood to restore the heterosexual nuclear family. so what’s left except to keep driving and killing things. why delve into what you REALLY are and what you REALLY want when a) that’s selfish b) you’ve got worked to do and c) you will be punished regardless
btw cas has the same truck as the one in brokeback mountain. so. do with that what you will.

when dean says "last time someone looked at me like that i got laid" he's being vicious
like. he tells sam that he doesn't believe in him, tells bobby that he's not his father. he's hitting on what hurts most on purpose, and for cas it's acknowledging this thing between them out in the open in a really vicious way. like. someone has buried a sword in his back and he pulls it through and slices cas open with it, too. they've had this really intense relationship and cas has literally and figuratively started falling for dean and they keep dancing around it and talking past each other and fundamentally i think they're both okay with that, for now. it's the apocalypse and if they survive - well, who knows. but for now there's sort of outlined rules of engagement which yeah, do include standing very close and a little staring but certainly does not include explicitly talking about it. and so, the very first time they talk about it explicitly, dean is using it as a weapon to hurt cas. and it works, or it at least pisses him off. because it's not just what he says, it's the calculatedly casual way he says it, he's intentionally cheapening this profound thing. it's the way they've been building to something and they both know it and dean just uses it to try and hurt cas enough to push him away.
