about the “outcast” situation
I’m going to give another point of view about this situation. Please understand that I’m in no way trying to bash the author or army at all, but this got out of proportion, and it would be great if you took the time to read this.
You see, it’s kind of funny how the tables have turned. Just a few weeks ago we got a lot of people shoving their opinions on us shippers, on how we shouldn’t shove fictional stuff made about real people to their faces, and now this happens.
I have to say that you all should be aware that ARMY just crossed a boundary that they shouldn’t have, a lot of you will say “you are sucking out the fun of everything“ and “it’s doing no harm, it has shown how powerful we are” or “it’s super good and it has united us all”, but this situation is all wrong and I’m going to tell you some reasons why this isn’t an entirely positive thing:
First, and foremost, AUs, specially triggering and violent ones should only be reachable to those who are specifically looking for them. They should not be shoved at anyone’s faces, much less to those artists who are featured in them as actual characters, and of course you guys are doing wrong, because all i see is people tagging @bts_twt in content related to this AU, that, marketing wise, has nothing to do with them and shouldn’t be part of the content they are globally linked to.
Which brings me to my second point, I know the author didn’t know what this would turn into, but are you guys aware of what consequences this could have? It’s all fun and polls and theories, until someone takes legal action. And yes, the author getting called out (be it privately or publicly) or sued, or getting their account shut down by request of BigHit Entertainment is a total possibility in the next few days, because someone is using BTS members as a way to get popularity, in a way that could be taken as defamation, so legal actions could totally be taken by the affected representatives.
And you all will say “but BigHit or the members haven’t acknowledged this, so it hasn’t reached them or means they don’t care, so it’s fine.” Which brings us to marketing strategies, and what not, when you know a little about marketing, you will know that, any publicity (be it bad or good) is good publicity, and BigHit knows this, which is why they are probably milking all this.
You must not forget that what I’m saying is only what I know could happen, just as it could totally not happen at all, and BigHit will just let it die down.
Third, you could all think that this is another 50SoG situation, where a fanfic!au written with the main characters of a renowned fictional set of books, better known as Twilight, makes it globally only after they changed the characters names, and it’s totally fine (within some parameters). Or another “After” situation, where the author made the fic with 1D as characters and had to delete the original to publish it officially with other character names. You are all excited because “OH! BTS AS CHARACTERS! GOOOOOOOOOOOOOD! LET’S MAKE IT TREND” but the reality is that what I just mentioned about this will probably be the outcome of the story twt user flirtaus has developed if they ever want to monetize their hard work (which i`m sure will happen at some point in the future, they have gotten a lot of exposure and popularity) since they cannot make money with bts members as characters now, because… it’s so popular it would actually lead to getting a one-way ticket to legal issues.
And finally, there’s no denying that this author’s life has been changed overnight, and that they were very smart and creative about the story they wanted to develop. But this AU -and any kind of AU to be honest, that’s why this is labeled as a sub-culture- is NOT something that should have made it to global trendings for 4 days in a row. Much less when REAL people and not FICTIONAL characters are being featured.
I’m glad that the author made the right decision to not shove in any ships. That’s one less problem.
Anyways, this is what I can take out of the situation and it’s only my point of view on it, you may have an opinion different than mine, and I respect that, so all I ask is to please respect mine.
