Hi! My name is Fall, and welcome to the (unofficial) Star Spangled Fanclub! Here we celebrate the feats and the flaws of Sylvester Pemberton, also known as Skyman and formerly The Star Spangled Kid, as well as his family, Pat Dugan (Stripesy, S.T.R.I.P.E.), the teams he's been on (The Seven Soldiers of Victory, The JSA, Infinity Inc.), and the rest of the Star family (Stargirl, Star Boy, and the many Starmen)!

Feel free to ask questions, but please note that I am not an expert. While I'm currently in the process of reading his early Golden Age appearances, I have only read Infinity Inc, All-Star Squadron, and some of Sylvester's post-death appearances, including Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E. and Starman (1994)

Making Sylvester Pemberton’s Artichoke Banana Yogurt Smoothie: A Guide

Ingredients: Artichoke Leafs, Artichoke Heart, Banana Cream Yogurt, Milk

Steps:

1. Steam artichoke parts (or do something similar to steaming in your microwave)

2. Put everything in blender; ratios are 2/5 Artichoke, 2/5 Banana Yogurt, 1/5 Milk

3. Blend, then continue to add more artichoke and blend until appropriately green

4. Strain Artichoke grass bits

Finished Product:

Final review: My first sip was pre-straining out the grass. It was all just artichoke grass. It was not nice. It was also warm. After I strained out as much of the grass as possible and added ice, it was actually ok. It mostly tasted like Banana Yogurt. I think if I just did artichoke hearts and banana yogurt, this could be a decent breakfast drink. So, Recovery? I didn't die. My stomach didn't die. 2/5 stars 💫

The answer is easily Sylvester.

Infinity Inc is such a fun comic with a fun, lighthearted tone for the most part. Its characters are very lovable, especially Sylvester. Nowadays, Sylvester is just known for being dead. In fact, he’s been dead for 37 years now. Every person that I’ve met in the process of reading Infinity Inc always hesitate when they get towards the end because they don’t want to see Sylvester die, and those who do regular rereads always skip the last three issues because the tone of the book changes completely after he’s gone.

After Sylvester dies, the team falls apart completely. Rick gets cancer. Beth and Yolanda die. Hank gets taken to an abusive insane asylum. Hector & Lyta and Al & Todd are both handed off to problematic writers. No one has a good time without Sylvester there. Mister Bones and Solomon Grundy are still blamed for Sylvester’s death, even though they weren’t the ones directly responsible.

The book also has the saddest final page of a series I’ve ever seen as Sylvester’s ashes are scattered over his former HQ. I can’t reread this without tearing up a little.
