jonghyun was more than happy to help students when needed, but devon had made a particularly interesting request. students have asked him in the past, but he had declined nearly each time. devon, being ambitious and he could see a bright future for her, wanted to help as much as he could. it was the second time he’d be teaching legilimency. a difficult and painful process, but as long as she showed the endurance and strength (which he didn’t doubt), he was more than willing to teach her.
it was fairly late into the night. jonghyun focused best in the dark and teaching something as difficult as legilimency required all of his concentration. he paced around his class room for a moment. awaiting for his students arrival.
clench your jaw, asking for help is like taking a blow in the face. she’s in no way used to asking, in no way ever inept to hands pressed close and knees kissing cold floorboards. mother looks down on begging, looks down on frailty in depending on others.
( women should be strong, purebloods should be proud, you are both so never ask for help. )
but the girl stands now, frozen before the dada classroom. her throat tightens, mouth dry, nerves twisting at the idea of a private lesson with the professor ( it’s the interactions that frighten her, provokes something in her shriveled and ugly — devon doesn’t know the first thing of what to say or do ). but she’s already asked and she’s already here, and more than anything, she had wanted to learn.
so she musters up the nerve, racking a small fist against the door lightly and at the male’s voice, proceeds to open it, greeting the professor with a dip of her head. beneath the veil of dark tresses, her lips mouth the greeting, but no sound comes just yet, tongue twitching nervously behind ivory.

( `he stumbles into the Slytherin threshold, holding onto the walls of the common room as he makes his way towards the chaise situated before the fireplace where he saw her sitting like a statue) I'm sorry, Dev. I fucked up. I fuck up all the time. I keep making promises I can't keep...why do you even fuckin' like me when all I do is lower your expectations after each and every indiscretion? ( `settling onto the lounge, he places his head onto her lap, eyes fluttering shut as fatigue settles in)
( ` she likes an untouchable boy. that’s what theo had been throughout her life—since she was seven, eight, nine, all up to the years of hogwarts. untouchable. but maybe she’s just been invisible, quiet mouth, shy tongue — maybe she’s just never made herself seen. maybe theo’s just never noticed. yes, he’s never noticed her.
maybe that’s her fault.
but he returns with a stench that makes her skin crawl, blurting words and sentences she can barely process—because he isn’t him and he smells like everything but the scent that comforted her on worser days of youth. yet her traitor heart beats on, quickly, skipping one or two beats when he rests on her lap—and devon is suddenly mouth dry, stomach flipping, caught off guard by the sudden turn of events.
evidently, she hadn’t been this close since he started dating that gryffindor. )

( ` and she cringes at childhood’s impediment resurfacing under the face of duress (who would have known, that theo would cause her duress?), twisting her fingers in out of shame and anxiety; her hands remain raised, almost afraid to touch him. )

regret tastes like what ethan did on her tongue. a soft, melting sort of taste (his was sweet; regret was tart) that fades away to nothing with time. she’ll feel nothing with time. here, her tongue wriggles behind its ivory cage, aching for usage she would not allow (if not for the sake of her pride). instead, she musters a soft shake of her head, maneuvering her charmed quill to write, in neat print, between the space separating them.

usually hangs around someone who could speak for her, given that they know what she wants to convey anyway

extremely proficient in nonverbal spells due to the inability to articulate incantations properly / practiced immensely to get to this point
has extremely violent tendencies, though mostly in the face of people/things she dislikes

appearance wise, she’s very prim and proper — school regulation length skirt, shirt buttoned precisely to the top, not a single hair out of place
raised on the crux of aristocracy and therefore has too high expectations of how people/men (in terms of chivalry) are to act
which means she also doesn’t know how to act properly in the face of boisterous personalities (which also risks her lashing out in return—depending on the situation)
