“then i had a vague memory of something long and dark with red eyes, just as we saw in the sunset, and something very sweet and very bitter all around me at once!”
THIS IS NOT HELPING
not to be dramatic or anything but maddie wants a disneyland proposal or something as extra. she wants there to be lots of people so she can be Very Gay publicly and wants lots of ppl to clap after she says yes and kisses her partner and then wants everyone to go “aww”
me: is having a good day
berkoff’s adaptation of tfothou: exists
me: is no longer having a good day
me: asks prof what a word means
prof: “it’s the same word as in english”
me: looks into the camera bc i don’t know what the word means in english either

International Cat Day
International Cat Day is a celebration which takes place on 8 August, every year. It was created in 2002 by the International Fund for Animal Welfare.
LEX !
she notes the hurt flashing across maddie’s face and bites back a sigh, and a twinge of guilt. maddie seems — well, it’s too early to say she seems different from everybody else in any substantial way, but at the very least it’s obvious that she takes things to heart, even from someone with lex’s — unpleasant reputation.
and she asked about pronouns. unprompted.
lex gnaws on the tip of her tongue for a moment, weighing the costs, and then mutters, “she and her, too. uh. please. and — look, i —”
god.
she’s never been any good with apologies, mostly because most people don’t deserve them. lex has the uncomfortable feeling that maddie does, and it’s making her tongue-tied and awkward. “sorry. for being so — hostile. you seem… nice. most people aren’t. i shouldn’t have — uh. assumed.”
an uncomfortable shrug. “we can just split everything fifty-fifty. or. as close to that as you can manage. what’s your deal, anyway? d’you have some sort of — uh —” she waves a hand, vaguely, trying to encompass every possible learning disorder in a single gesture. “’cause that’s fine. i’m dyslexic or something, apparently.”
maddie decides to not address the apology or the thank you in fear of messing it up even more. it’ll probably be better for them both if she simply moves on and lets the matter rest. she resists flapping and instead, she patiently runs a hand through her hair and then attempts to gather herself.
“well, i’m not dyslexic, so maybe i can go through at the end and make sure everything is... well, alright.” there are many more questions waiting to be asked and she’d really like to go forward and comfortably ask them all, but lex seems to be one of those people who likes to use only a few words.
maddie jots down in her notes: lex, she/her/hers, dyslexic. read over work @ end to make sure no mistakes.
that looks alright to her.
she carefully turns back to her lex and hesitantly proceeds.
“i mean, i just have anterograde amnesia. longer things are a bit harder for me to write and i don’t take breaks while writing, because... it’s really hard to pick up where i left off. but maybe if you’re dyslexic... we could write the essay together. like, you could dictate it to me, or tell me some ideas, and i could type it up for us. does that sound good to you?”
then it occurs to her that it’s a more advanced english class which means that lex is either an english major or minor (or in a field related to english). she wants to ask why she picked this field of studies if she’s dyslexic, but maybe that’s rude to ask.
