One would think that Jiyong would be shocked into a silence at how real her words were. She didn’t hide anything and flat out told him everything that he already knew. And yet he was smiling at her, laughing almost. He turned a fraction in his seat, gently cupping her cheeks in his hands as he looked at her. “No matter what happens to you. Whether its something as horrible as… that” He still had slight trouble saying it out loud, he didn’t like the prospect of someone doing something as horrible as that to Sohee and refused to acknowledge it “Or something as equally horrible as some people’s fashion sense I always want to know. If it’s you, I always want to know” One last grin and he removed his hands from her face, placing them back comfortably into his lap and glancing forward towards the fire once again. 

Before he knew it she was burrowed against his neck and naturally his arms reached up to cave around her shoulders, pulling her in once more. He had become so accustomed to being in such close proximity to her that his mind didn’t even need to think twice before his arms folded around her. It was just so regular for them. “Don’t mention it” He said simply, shrugging it off. Much like how she said she didn’t like when people did things for her, he didn’t like doing things for people. Unless, of course, they were gravely important to him, then he’d make the exception.

Grasping the bottle that had hovered towards him, he took a swig instantly. He smiled in the darkness before glancing over at Sohee, seeing her eyes flutter shut next to him. Making the extra effort to show no movements so that she could sleep comfortably, Jiyong merely continued to stare at the fire before them, his arms still pleasantly circling her shoulders. It was unique but he liked when they were silent. They didn’t need to constantly  share pointless stories for them to have an enjoyable time. They could just sit in silence, just like this, and it would be okay.

The impending silence had virtually no effect on Sohee, but she presumed that Jiyong would grow bored if they just sat and gazed at the entrancing fire for the next hour. Wrenching her eyelids apart, she sluggishly lifted a hand to tug at a lock of his hair, a tiny smile spreading across her lips as she dabbed at her tear-glazed cheeks with her other hand. "Are we just gonna sit here or what? I can't believe you just went a whole minute without talking," she uttered suddenly.

The silence really wasn't as unnerving as she expected; as long as it was spent with him, she could stand it. She rumpled the sleeve of her sweater, a quick decision forming in her head that would serve as a refreshing moment for the both of them.

Sohee finally rose away from Jiyong, lightly fixing her hair before turning to him, a brow quirked. "I'm going to take a walk around the village. Come with me." It was more of a demand than anything, because she felt she direly needed to make up for lost time with him.

He fumbled slightly, his arm flinching from her side when he saw the bottle fall to the floor in a cascade of broken shards. He hadn’t expected a reaction as such and with the words she was forcing out, he was completely baffled. He had expected her to be… happy? Or at least something that wasn’t what she was showing him in the present moment. His hands timidly found their way around the base of the bottle, staring at the glass neck like it was the cure to all diseases. 

Avoiding her eyes, he stared into the fire, contemplating what he should say, or do, next. “It was a lot easier than you’d expect, really” Jiyong began, producing his classic cocky nature as a facade to hide behind. “He might’ve been a manipulative dick but he had just about as much brains as a snail” He continued on, laughing mirthlessly as his hands tightened around the bottle. He didn’t want to think about and had successfully pushed the thought to the back of his mind, only revealing itself now that he was in her presence. Did she want to know the exacts or just the same simple version he had provided every official that had asked him for what happened. “All you need to know is that he wont be hurting anyone, any time soon” It was a cliche’d way to describe to her the events that had transfixed, it was the truth. 

Last he heard the kid was still at Mungo’s.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” He asked eventually, emptying the drink completely before tossing it into the fire, watching the flames erupt around it “Why did I have to find it through a drunken conversation with some idiot who had no idea how amazing you are”

A bubble of rage burst in Sohee's throat. "What, do you think I wanna share...that? Do you think I want to discuss how I was raped, beaten, and left in the dust by a bunch of heartless fucks when I didn't have an ounce of confidence to fend for myself?" Her voice came out in a hushed, trembling whisper, the previous and short lived light-heartedness borne on gratitude gone now. Her teeth latched over her bottom lip, hands fidgeting and twining, unfurling and twisting restlessly in her lap now.

"Anyways..." she turned to meet his gaze again, eyes softening. "I hope you know how grateful I am. I usually hate it when people do stuff that I'm capable of for me but..." she trained her line of sight to the ground, eyelids fluttering to bar more tears. "Thank you." Sohee let her thin arms envelop his middle, face nestled in the contours of his neck. She couldn't help noticing how instinctive it felt, and this mere thought drove her to lean away. A hug simply wasn't enough. It simply didn't compensate for the gravity of his actions.

"Accio." Sohee shattered the silence, pointing her wand at the red cooler several yards away from their seats, allowing for the opportunity to mull over everything. Two icy bottles bobbed over to them in the murky dark pooling around the bonfire. The Slytherin rested her chin on clasped hands, eyes falling shut as her mind reeled with everything, only worsened by these inexplicably new emotions exploding in her brain's interior at the very thought of Jiyong.

Lost Epiphany | Sohee & Chae

“Sorry. I should really keep my wand away when I’m reading.” Chaerin chuckled, a bit amused at her own little mishap. She smiled as the other girl scrutinized her, quite aware she was probably trying to remember where they knew each other from. “Hey, I met you before right? Probably a long time ago though, cause I left for France for a while.” she asked, explaining a bit. Having lived in France for five years, Chaerin had acquired lost contact with a lot of people she had met, and only got random news from her mother’s gossip. She was grounded or too busy most of the time to keep any real contact with anyone at that time, and honestly, most of her friends at the time would probably dislike her highly now. Chaerin hoped this wouldn’t be the case, though. “Yup, fifth year… and kinda arrived really late. I wasn’t aware of the testing period… since it’s until later in Beuxbatons”

"France?" Sohee mused, failing to keep the envy out of her voice. "Wow...I've always wanted to go there. I've only been to Seoul and London my whole life," she explained, a chipper laugh drifting from her parted lips as her fingernails tapped idly against the side of her chair. Honestly, she remembered asking her aunt years back if she could travel elsewhere over the stretch of summer vacation or something, but to no avail. A sudden memory struck her in the midst of her conversation with Chaerin, one that made her chest start to close up as she tried to suffocate laughter that was beginning to bubble up in her throat. Soon, she attempted to muffle her wild, incessant cackling behind her fingers. She could feel Chaerin's appalled stare searing into her, and she managed to gasp to a stop, a stop final enough to offer an explanation to her crazy giggles. "Erm, do you know Jiyong? Kwon Jiyong? That Gryffindor? Well, anyways..." and Sohee felt a spark kindle within her as she recollected the hilarious story to her new--daresay--friend. Really, she never got tired of retelling this story to others, since it never failed to produce at least a few chuckles from both narrator and listener.
