some of you guys will never stop pissing me off. holy fuck.
i've had these screenshots sitting in my gallery for a couple days now. i actually deleted them at first because i kept thinking, "i shouldn't even react to stuff like this." other people already have. the people defending this stuff aren't going to change their minds because of me, so what am i even going to accomplish? But then i kept seeing more and more posts like this. I swear i've been recommended more videos of people defending k-pop idols who were racist and people defending gooseworx than i've been recommended things from my actual fandoms, and that's honestly insane.
And then i saw this bullshit
"BlackPink aren't racists, stop barking y'all!!"
even if you genuinely believed they weren't, this is probably one of the worst ways you could try to argue it. you're not making your point stronger. you're just being a dick to people who are rightfully upset.n holy fuck there is so much wrong with this that i genuinely don't know where to start.
"you cannot logically demand an apology for 11 years when the public and the artists themselves did not even know the private footage was out until recently."
Being racist does not have an expiration date. If something harmful comes to light years later, people are still allowed to expect accountability. the fact that it happened a long time ago doesn't magically erase the fact that it happened. Time passing is not an apology.
"trainees do not have the freedom to edit songs or choose how they perform."
i really don't think someone is going to lose their chance at debut because they skipped saying the n-word. Others have literally replaced it with another word. there are so many other words they could have said. It was one word. We were blessed with language. please use it correctly.
"singing along to a song by a Black artist is not the same as holding racist beliefs."
It becomes racist when the word you're choosing to sing is a racial slur that has been used for generations to dehumanize Black people. The n-word isn't just another fucking lyric. It has a history of being used to dehumanize black people. People don't get to separate the word from the violence attached to it just because it's in a song.
"BLACKPINK has shown nothing but respect for Black artists and culture throughout their careers, as seen in their collaborations with artists like Doechii and Bruno Mars and the way they openly admire icons like Beyoncé and Doja Cat."
This argument honestly made me laugh because... That's literally the "i'm not racist, i have a black friend!!!!!!!" argument. Having black collaborators or admiring black artists does not automatically mean someone cannot do racist things. Those two statements can exist at the same time. Also... Bruno Mars isn't even Black?? He's Filipino and Puerto Rican.
"these were private unreleased videos that were never intended for the public."
...so? what you're actually saying here is that it's apparently okay to say racial slurs as long as nobody catches you. That somehow it's acceptable if it's done in private. How is that supposed to make this situation better? It doesn't, if anything, it makes the defense sound even worse.
"it is dangerous to judge a person's character based on a leaked, out-of-context clip that may not even be authentic."
the context is literally right there. they said the word. and even if you want to talk about "context"... please tell me what context makes saying the n-word okay? i'm genuinely asking what possible context would suddenly make it acceptable because i cannot think of one.
"let's stop misusing the word racist and focus on how these artists actually treat people."
They still said a racial slur those things are not mutually exclusive. Someone can be kind to people and still do something racist. Someone can make charitable donations and still say racist things. There are millions of times that we have seen this happen. Being nice sometimes doesn't erase harmful actions. People are allowed to acknowledge both.
And then the fucking ending oh my god you piss me off
"yeah i agree they should apologise... because of some toxic kpoppies 🤡"
they should apologise because they said a slur. That's it. Not because fans are "annoying." Not because people are criticizing them. Because they used a word that has been used for centuries to dehumanize Black people. That is the reason.
for anyone wondering, from everything i've been able to find:
• Lisa said it six times.
• Jennie said it five times.
• Rosé said it once.
• Jisoo, from everything currently available, said it zero times.
(if more evidence ever comes out, obviously those numbers could change.)
and before anyone tries to twist this post:
I am not saying people aren't allowed to grow. People absolutely can, people can learn, people can become better. That's exactly why apologies matter. Growth starts with acknowledging that what you did was wrong. Pretending it wasn't racist, making excuses, or insulting the people calling it out doesn't help anyone. It just tells everyone that protecting your favourite celebrity is more important than acknowledging harm. Thats what makes me so pissed off oh my goodness. Stop treating accountability like it's some personal attack.
