Sweetheart Grips
During World War Il, male soldiers often placed photos of their loved ones under the clear grips of their weapons, a practice that became known as "sweetheart grips".
Army cadets would personalize their grips with photos of their partners as a reminder of home or with pinup girls as a morale boost.
More than anything though, they became a way for the soldiers to care for their issued weapons and stay motivated during combat.
I share these images for aesthetic and historical purposes only - certainly not to glorify war, which I am very much against socially and ideologically. As you can see from the photos, many of these soldiers were just teenage boys being sent off to fight in gruesome circumstances on the front lines, whilst the rich bankers and politicians at the time were just as corrupt as the nefarious puppet masters that perpetuate war in today’s society.
