so quick headcanon I’m going to elaborate on later is that Lana is Chinese on her mother’s side. Because her mother died when she was young, she lived with her father in Smallville on the farm. Through her grandparents and uncles/aunts she learns more about her culture but she wasn’t raised in it (and visits are scarce since we rarely see other family with Lana).
The Superwoman narrative is about Lana and her identity and learning to love both parts of herself as Lana and Superwoman. Growing up in a mostly white small town, raised by her white father and in a society that favors whiteness Lana grew up with a lot of questions about her identity and fitting in. Being biracial, she’s always been told “she’s not Chinese *enough*” or “you don’t *look* chinese” or “you’re not white”. And as Superwoman she’s always being told she’s not “The same Lana” and “you’re not Superman”.
She is proud to be Chinese and she is proud to be Superwoman.
