Okay but imagine you’re a tiny lizard living your humble & scaly life well hidden inside tomato leaves and then one day God starts leaving hills of brownies and avocado toasts three times the size of your head right by your front door.

Ok why did noone tell me that book shrek judt absolutely FUCKS
And they didn’t even mention the best page.
oh this is a life saver
So these are both “Aw Fuck I’m outta real food” meals BUT ALSO: if you’re learning how to cook, these are great “baby steps” meals to learn how to cook basics into something enjoyable without “wasting” anything expensive. Though I maintain that even cooking screw-ups are valuable in terms of lessons learned.
Also they’re great for when you get absorbed in something and you realize your blood sugar is dropping and you need to make something Quick.
Making basic storecupboard or fridge ingredients less basic and more nutritious.
Trivia from Turning Red (2022) dir. Domee Shi (insp)
Hey I have good news for everyone.
Cringe culture literally does not exist outside of the internet.
I take my Minecraft backpack to college and I get tons of compliments on it. My boss’s son plays Minecraft and he’s elated to have a “resident Minecraft expert.”
Lots of things that fall under “cringe” are very dear to me and my friends. Good people recognize and celebrate that passion, no matter what it’s for.
No but... I feel like the criticism of Turning Red that it "doesn't explain generational trauma" is a symptom of the bigger problem where *cough* certain people expect the lives and experiences of poc, specifically woc, to be readily available, accessible, and easy to understand for their consumption.
Turning Red isn't meant to be a story teaching you about generational trauma or explaining what it is, it's about a thirteen year old girl dealing with it as it is and as it influences and shapes her life and the life of her family.
If you don't personally get it or you feel like the experience wasn't catered for you, I need you to reflect on why you expect every story that isn't about you to serve as an entry level crash course on common experiences that you've just gone your whole lives not having to think about ever.
turning red is the most positive i've been on a pixar flick for like...a decade? incredibly strong on all fronts, and surpassed my high expectations! some stray thoughts
the pastel, almost impressionistic backgrounds are such a breath of fresh air for disney/pixar. really beautiful stuff
the ghibli film only yesterday was impossible to watch legally in the US until 2016—it took 25 whole years for it to be released here! and there's no official confirmation, but the fact that the girls in the movie mention periods had to be a reason why disney refused to distribute it. huge props to whoever convinced disney to let turning red be both metaphorically & literally about puberty, featuring a few scenes with period talk
truly "i am cringe but i am free", the movie
coming of age movies set in middle school feel more intense & personal than those set in high school imo!
more spoilery thoughts
the mixing of the traditional chinese singing with the 2000s boyband music was CRAZY it worked so well
in less deft hands, all the older women would've changed their minds and chosen to remain with their panda spirits, convinced by mei's decision. but they don't! and that's how it usually is with older generations!
was waiting for the gratuitous "omg she gave her mom that scar!!!" shot but it never came, the movie trusts its audience to come to that conclusion by themselves. i actually gasped when that was revealed lmao
i know generational trauma is a hot topic in pop culture right now, but this is the first time it's hit on a personal level for me...i think it's the fact that all the other women make the choice to hold their emotions in, despite everything
mei comforting her crying mom, as a child, splintered me into a thousand tiny bits. domee shi gets it
excited to see whatever this creative team does next <3

Andrew Garfield: “To heal the most traumatic moment of his own life through doing it for his younger brother. Making sure that he didn’t have the same fate, there’s something cosmically beautiful about that. It meant getting a second chance at saving Gwen.”

long haul covid is now largely being called PACS. post acute covid-19 syndrome.
some quick notes from the dysautonomia international conference about this, some things here may have been incorrectly written down because there was so much (register to learn more and get these presentations in full)
between 10-50% (some studies say 30-50%, huge range) of people who get covid 19 will have PACS and/or chronic symptoms from covid-19. these are only estimates and many patients going on a year or more. these are chronic conditions without cures even from very mild covid-19 cases. the diagnosis of autonomic and autoimmune conditions took years prior to the pandemic and more accurate numbers will be a while
many people notice start of symptoms ~4 weeks after infection
there is autonomic involvement in most cases of PACS
other viral conditions are associated with developing autonomic dysfunction such as sars and mers. POTS often has a viral trigger regardless of what it is
covid 19 involves loss of brain matter
age range is all across the board
the most common autonomic diagnosis is POTS
other common diagnoses include orthostatic intolerance, gastrointestinal disturbance
even with extremely mild covid-19 infection, long term symptoms and chronic illness are common. and by long term, 6+ months. many people stop being able to work at all
brain fog and memory problems are huge, potentially related to the loss of brain matter
there is widespread tissue damage throughout the body from covid-19
there is no diagnostic criteria for PACS yet
statistics estimate there will be over 10 million people in the US with covid-19 related autonomic dysfunction
all doctors should get autonomic training
if you have dysautonomia and develop covid you will very likely get worse, they do not cancel out. get vaccinated
there is an autoimmune aspect to PACS as well as to POTS, still being worked out. covid-19 may cause an autoimmune storm so to speak
a diagnosis of POTS currently requires 6+ months of symptoms, so there will be many more diagnoses as time goes on
there are not enough doctors to care for this influx of autonomic patients
there was a ton of cool information and this is only a snippet. register for the free dysautonomia international virtual conference for the entire presentations
