today, i gave a 15 minute long talk on something that means a lot to me, and i didn’t look like an absolute fool while doing it. except for maybe my beanie being too far back on my head. that was pretty foolish.
(i talked about feminism, rosie the rivieter, and the meaning of rosie, and it will be online in the next week or so).

1. it’s funny cause there’s a lot of elitists who point fingers at other people and call them elitist and arrogant 2. if you don’t like smath, just leave. nothing’s keeping you there. if leaving’s not a the better choice, you might as well make the most out of smath 3. don’t fucking undermine the amazing opportunities smath has given you 4. stop fucking complaining about the administration’s rules. we’re still a PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL. most of us are still MINORS and the school isn’t trying to be held liable for anything #sorrynotsorry 5. newflash ncssm isn’t toxic, we all came out alive 6. there are people who take serious things as a joke. like for a hypothetical example, they join SG for the lols and then don’t do SHIT for the school, and then complain about the school’s administration and policy when they’re in a SG position or they make BS bills like the academic dishonesty policy and then proclaim they are perfect people who have never committed academic dishonesty and accuse those who have been caught as arrogant people. 7. newsflash, there’s an application system because not everyone can have everything they want #sorryDEFINITELYnotsorry 8. if smath is the worst two years of your life, then it’s YOUR fault for letting that happen. sorry that the school couldn’t cater to your every want. 9. smath bubble = smath community; no one thinks its cute that we’re somewhat excluded from the outside world. it everyone’s personal choice how much they want to be involved with the outside world. 10. ncssm teachers have more freedom of how they want to teach and what they want to teach, instead of following typical state’s regulations that other public high schools have to. but there is a reason why there are regulations for AP’s and common core classes. personally, i believe ncssm had more of a “apply your knowledge” basis than my home school. 11. ncssm is full of the smartest kids of the state. most people come from areas where they were the top students, but determining how to deal with arrogance and confidence is something ncssm teaches you. for those who didn’t figure it out, please refer back to point 1. 12. honestly, smath is what YOU make it to be. if you hate the school, go ahead and waste your energy hating the school for two years. OR you can find a way to make smath to your benefit

Hey I'll be a junior this coming year and I'm going to NCSSM. I'm keen on going as I want to get the best education possible and all that jazz which my old school wasn't offering. But you see I checked out the tag for NCSSM and I saw some negative comments. So I wanted to hear more of your opinion on the matter. I graduated from S&M approximately 44 days ago, so I guess that makes me your grandsenior, which is kind of miserable for me, and I guess you’ll understand that if you graduate from Science and Math too. I don’t mean that “if” as some sort of doubt of your character or academic prowess - some people just find it isn’t right for them. I fell in love with my own little slice of hell. Your experience will depend on you - it’s all about the little circumstances that make everything different.

The North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics is a residential high school for ‘gifted’ juniors and seniors it is a small plot of land in which 680 teenagers and 22 adults reside for over 200 days a year it is a cesspool of depression and loneliness and ‘exceptional education’ it is all nighters and procrastination and internet cut offs and sitting with your friends at six am watching the sun rise the morning before graduation it is the bittersweet melody of losing interest in everything you once took pride in and feeling so incredibly stupid when things JUST DON’T MAKE SENSE anymore it is a name brand value it is everlasting friendships and connection to any alum because you went through the same hell and came out alive it is that last move out day - Graduation it is saying goodbye to a hellish, wonderful, terrible chapter of your life and the friends you made in a last final march, across a stage, under the trees of Watts lawn.
