What's with Fashion?
Fashion is an expression of who you are and that definition is so cliché. I’ve heard that to almost every fashion students, including myself, when asked “what is fashion to you?” or “why did you choose fashion?” Well, that’s really one of the reasons (maybe) but we know that there is more into fashion than just an expression.
For instance, when fashion students meet their professors and asked, “so what course is this class?” and the students will answer “Fashion Design” there is this ‘wow-ish’ factor that runs in the professors’ flesh.
It makes me think that Fashion is a ‘new’ maybe ‘rare’ thing to other people. It is something that you have to be in it, in order to fully understand the whole sense of it –the whole use of it. It is something that you can’t really understand by just wanting to learn what is it all about. Fashion needs to dive in to your sea of interest; it needs to catch your attention without any other force pushing you to do so aside from yourself.
I believe that fashion is not for everyone just like a wasabi that makes other people feel off. It is not like an addition lesson in your first grade that if someone tried to explain it, you will easily get it. Well, Fashion is not as easy as it seem. There are a whole lot of streets and bridges that comes along in Fashion. There are roads that you need to take before entering the glittering side of it. Remember that Chanel Haute Couture will not be Chanel if it didn’t undergo the long roads of intricate beading and sewing.
Basically, Fashion is not just an expression, it is an industry. It is an arena of different people collaborating, creating, to form style and give birth or re-birth a trend. It is where people build business that makes the meaning of Fashion more significant. There is money in every fabric being sold as a garment. There is life in Fashion that is why people whose cup of tea is this, makes it not an art stuff but –a design study.
