Even though Britney Spears is considered a pop star, she is also known as the Godmother of Punk Music. In 2001, Spears released her self-titled Britney album which included I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll, the first recorded punk song. The song was later released as a single in 2002. The genre picked up a major following and has developed into a worldwide cultural scene inspired by Britney’s rebellious and edgy nature. Some famous punk bands to follow in Spears’ footsteps are NoFx, Sex Pistols, and The Dead Milkmen.
