I’m incredibly open about being autistic
And if you’re wondering if that’s intentional, you’d be right.
I have to be (unless safety prohibits disclosure). This is due to the fact that almost no one around me figures it out on their own. Took till 25 to get diagnosed because doctors used horrible stereotypes to refuse to see what was clearly staring them in the face.
If I don’t disclose, then they’re going to assume I’m just a neurotypical who doesn’t act normally and perform as expected and ostracize me greatly because of it (aka, my childhood).
I do realize how incredibly privileged I am for having the ability to self disclose and control who I am disclosing to. But I also require this ability for the maintenance of my mental, and therefore physical as well, health. Long term intentional suppression who I am is the worst self destructive behavior I have.
