CHANEL Haute Couture Autumn Winter 2013 2014 Paris...Umm?

I'm usually quite impressed by Chanel's Haute Couture collections, however this A/W just didn't at all. 90's, ill fitting, cheap fabrics is the jist of it.

The added belt details sit below the hips which doesn't flatter any figure. The mixture of fabrics seem too confusing and accessories are added when they're not needed. Sequence, tweed and chiffon just doesn't clash well together. I think this collect seems to want to bring back a very 90s look, which doesn't work. The piece I'm not too keen on is the fish tail dress, covered in sequence. Not to my taste, doesn't flatter many shapes and I can't imagine many other designers/up and coming designers nor high street wanting to jump on the bang wagon.

However, it's not all negative. I adore the geometrical bowler hats, gives it a modern twist and is a great contract with the location of the show. The 3D effect on some of the garments is beautiful and clashes well with the location, accessories and other pieces in the collection. However the eye is immediately drawn to the belt. It's almost like a freebee from Primark. The block shoulders work well and really give a strong structure to the design and collection. I feel the a-line shoulders and blazers are complete perfection.
