Driving in the midwest was so atrocious (for obvious reasons chicago is not included in this. Chicago was fine and normal) I never knew what anyone was going to do. In boston if you leave someone an opening, the other person just goes. In the midwest, the other person waits (trying to be polite by letting you go i guess) and then you are in a stand off waiting for someone to drive. Do I go? What if they go and we have a collision? so much hesitation. People are cautious/hesitant to the point i felt less safe driving. There are rules at a 4 way stop: whoever gets there first goes. But driving in illinois i would find myself trying to follow that rule while the person in the car across from me made eye contact with me trying to indicate they were politely waiting for me to drive. Anyway I was so relieved when I moved back to boston and people just did what I expected them to do lol.
