So who else is doing a rewatch of The Magicians? I found out it’s on Prime and I’m doing my third rewatch…but I’m trying to take it slow and really savor it. It’s such a comforting watch for the most part…even tho I know what’s coming.

the secret lives of ladybugs (Substack)
So excited to share my reflections on the ladybug lifecycle and the joys of observing nature. <3
the gazes…the embraces…Dorothy/Clara kissing Brandy’s back…they are all I can think about.
Made this for them <3 :"))
I will never be over Brandy and Dorothy, I fear.
Ok but can we talk about how on the boat ride at the end, Tim was looking at the drops of water flying and falling back into the ocean, calling back to the speech about mortality the monk gave him at the temple. Such a great callback.
Doing a rewatch of Dance Academy. I’m already in season two but I’ve been crying and grieving Sammy even tho he is still alive at this point in the show. It’s so hard watching him and adoring his character knowing what will happen :( his death hit me so hard the first time I watched the show. It still does.
third places, talking to strangers, and the loneliness epidemic

On People Watching
“Growing up, at least around the time I was in middle school and high school, one of my favorite hobbies was people watching. I liked to give strangers names and piece together narratives about their lives based on what they were wearing, and doing, and how my mind made sense of them. It was easy to tell myself stories about these people, especially because I never once exchanged a single word with any of them; I only watched them safely from a distance (usually from the back of the bus).”
In the Stars I Find Hope
Super proud to share my first ever Substack piece! In it, I discuss finding beauty in the mundane, existentialism, and my philosophy of what happens after we die.
Hope you like it :)

Life can sweep you up in its hugeness. At times, it can feel as if everything would go on without you just fine. At other times, it is almost as if you are the center of everything. Everything that could possibly go wrong does, and you draw everyone’s attention when you least desire it. I often find the solution to this is a matter of reframing one’s perspective. Although it is quite popular these days to bring up the fact that we are quite literally living on a floating rock, our existence is truly remarkable if you really take the time to inspect it. We live in a universe. No—scratch that. We ARE the universe, or at least part of it. We are floating—or spinning—on the one planet (to our knowledge) that hosts life in the entire universe. We live in an oasis in a great starry desert that is ever-expanding.

The thing about romance is, it makes a good story.
As soon as Neil described season 2 as "quiet, gentle, romantic" I figured we'd be in for it, because as he's the first to point out, writers are liars. And the best way to deceive is with truth.
Season 2 is romantic. The trappings of romance are everywhere. Crowley tries to set up Nina and Maggie by trapping them under an awning during a rainstorm, a classic cinematic bonding technique. Aziraphale's chosen method comes from his beloved books: the ball, the dancing, appearing as a pair in public, hands held as you twirl gracefully with your heart thrilled and racing. If they can set up a sensational kiss that will unlock the happy ever after. They've lived on earth, they've studied the tropes, they know how romance works.
The problem is a story is only a story.
