So, a thought about vampires... aren't most vampires depicted as being narcissistic? But they can't look at themselves in mirrors like Narcissus did when he became obsessed with himself. Like how did they know they were good looking? I want a story of the ugly vampire who thinks he's beautiful because that's what everyone says he is. And his portraits look nothing like him because artists are afraid to paint him ugly, so they make him look great. But now in present day people aren't as polite and some teenagers make fun of him on the subway for being ugly and he doesn't understand why. And an existential crisis ensues where he realizes he's been ugly for hundreds of years and never knew.

An artist giving a tour backstage at Cirque du Soleil just said, "There's not much to see here just some props and stuff." I beg to differ sir.

Hamilton Advice

This whole Hamilton/Pence brouhaha has really gotten to me. But one tweet I saw really sent me over the edge to where I would write about it:

Um, what? I could list SO MANY artistic pieces that have to do with political/social statements. But let me just say that art reflects life and a lot of the time that involves politics. And instead of going on a tirade of how wrong the above tweets are, I decided to try and send the President-Elect some words of wisdom from a well known musical:

Petals GO

Yesterday I called the hardest cues I’ve ever had to call.

I was an ASM for Beautiful Together: an artistic journey towards hope. It was the artistic community of Orlando’s response to the shootings that took place two weeks ago. Over 60 arts groups collaborated to create a night of hope and healing for our community.

Before the show started the PSM asked me to help her call cues for the petals dropping. After each name of those killed a handful of rose petals were dropped from the grid. Each drop was called. I called the cues for the second half of the names. The entire time holding back tears, trying to keep my go clear. Nothing was as touching as knowing I had a part in healing this community.
